I despise AFW. And the dude's captive wild amimals, and all the hidden charges and costs.

Why?

I have a co-worker who is a Colorado native who hates Jake Jabs (sp?) and AFW, too. I've bought furniture from them twice now (just three pieces) and didn't have any issues with hidden charges, etc. I wouldn't say that the furniture at AFW is the highest of high quality, but generally it isn't terrible, either, and I like the pieces I bought. I'm just curious to know why you despise them.

I don't think private individuals should keep wild animals. I would not buy from them for that reason alone. I don't know if they have changed their policies, but they had a charge if you picked up the furniture (instead of having it delivered). I have heard people having troubles returning things, and I think there is a restocking fee.

IKEA.

AFW furniture looks straight out of the 80's.

He's anti union, and I've heard anti-worker (someone's opinion), and he's a big Republican donor. I saw he had a picture of himself with George Bush on the wall in the Aurora store.

He tries to come off as an average joe who supports the local economy. I doubt much of his furniture was even made in the U.S., and I'm betting he lives in a mansion somewhere around here.

I had one of the soft side waterbeds in the early '90s... that thing was seriously comfortable!

Jake Jabs started AFW in 1974, has had remarkable growth, and has remained a Colorado Corporation -- although in recent times has expanded to selling furniture outside Colorado. while holding the corporate reins and revenues in our state. The two firms have different markets with different demographics and different design expectations. Value-wise, Jab's organization is a monster to beat, from formal through traditional and the very casual. The number of AFW outlets, each big in size - but easily navigable - puts IKEA's single, huge buiding way back in the race.
