Exclamation att: those who relocated to Denver!!!

We're thinking of moving to Denver. We've heard all this great stuff about it, basically it sounds too good to be true! Great schools, affordable housing (can get a nice house in nice neighborhood for under 300k), great weather (sunny days), and scenery is beautiful.

So, my question is, for those of you who actually made the move and you're settled in whether it be a few months now or a few years........was it worth it? Does it live up to the hype?

I moved from San Diego 12 years ago and I love it here. Housing was much more affordable when I bought here. I love the seasons.

I moved to Denver from Orange County 6 years ago and really like it. We live in the actual city of Denver and have good schools. But you can't get much of a house in the city for under $300K. The suburbs are cheaper for a nice house (granted, what "nice house" means is subjective). The weather is great in Summer. I could really do without the cold and snow in Winter, but at least it's not a constant.

Default My 2 cents

It depends on where you're coming from. We came from TX and the home prices in Denver are frightening in comparison. The schools are much better. The weather great, but often too cold for me! The traffic is a nightmare, but it is in lots of places....read an interesting article in 5280 Magazine this month about the state's crumbling infrastructure. The taxes are also very high.

Really it just depend on what you're coming from.

My wife and I moved here about 4 months ago...and we've already decided that we're never leaving.

Yes, Denver does live up to the hype. You couldn't pay me to move back to to east coast LOL.

okaaaay, so it does sound like the real thing lol

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, a question for all, what's the BEST thing you like about being in the Denver area? Just curious...especially since everyone is from all over.....

(oh, I'm originally from the East Coast....now in Southern California....kind of bi-coastal at the moment, but looking for a steady place to call home)

I am originally from New York and I came here from Texas about 33 yrs. ago. The biggest impact and what I liked was the extensive parks, trails and open space in the Urban and Surburban areas. Every neighborhood has a place to go and relax in park and they interconnect with miles of trails--astounding. It is really amazing that the Denver areas had decided to plan for so many parks, many years in the past. I am not even counting the extensive public land, parks and open space in the mountains. Denver's Park system does include land in the mountains. Today there is even more land set aside for open space than when I arrived.

Going along with these parks, you see parks and trails near little waterway, creek, irrigation canal, small ponds, streams, reservoirs and along the Platte River. Since water resources are rare here, they are valued and surrounded by parks. In New York, water is everywhere and not so valued. In the town I grew up, the creeks were filled with garbage, weeds and there were no trails and few parks.

Another big surprise was the extent of the Public Transit system. I was shocked that this system including many counties, years in the past not even too long after the city's origin. I would never have thought that would be the case with a Western City. Now the public transit is even more extensive and growing and is noted natiionally as one of the best systems in the country. Now, that I am senior, Public Transit is very important and desired.
