I'm considering moving from Connecticut in a year or so and looking at some place with a little more mild weather. I was considering California or Colorado and was leaning towards Denver Colorado until a friend told me about how much of a hipster scene it was. Is all of the Denver area mostly occupied by hipsters? Thanks for the help.

So sorry...what is a hipster exactly?
I'm outta the loop.
Thanks.

My understanding is there are many diff areas of Denver.
Conservative, wealthy (Think JonBenet's family), low down around Colfax and the Capitol district,
Gays, then liberals into alternative medicine types...higher income Cherry Creek types of all ages very into
the art scene, classy dressers, $1500 purses (University Ave).
How should I describe Washington Square, I like it there, reminds me of a college atmosphere.
Oh, then you have the typical blue collar areas, Spanish areas....great restaurants, antique stores on S. Broadway....
Concerts, Museums, plays...I miss it...I should go walking around for a weekend...have some fun...
Then there's Boulder! and Pearl St. and the lovely mountains there with all the healthy people ...

OP, the whole Denver metro area has over 2,500,000 people. No way could you say that there's a predominant "theme" with this size population, although there probably are more people into fitness and outdoor activities than other large metropolitan areas.

"Hipster"????? Do you have some sort of impression that everyone is walking around stoned all the time? I'm with Miss Hepburn on this one. Maybe your friend could explain.

BTW, it seems like almost everyone in Denver has moved there from somewhere else (except my husband, who is a native). This makes for a diverse demographic.

Lakeside, but is technically a city and not a town.
Bowmar is close town.

LOLOL! The 16h street mall, a popular tourist stop, is one of the only places in Denver that I can think of that contains a large population of hipsters. A fair number of hipster types in LODO, Wash Park. Probably Boulder also, but that isn't close to Denver. More than 5 miles from the center of Denver and you would be hard pressed to find a crowd of hipsters outside of a school campus.

Just stay out of highland, cap hill and uptown. Those are the fixie riding and tight jeans areas.

What? Hipsters don't live in LODO, Wash Park, or congregate on the 16th Street Mall.

The hipster areas of Denver are the Baker and RINO neighborhoods and to a lesser extent Cap Hill and the Highlands.

Federal Heights and Sheridan are two close by towns which I doubt have any hipsters.

By hipster you mean indie non-mainstream artsy and you don't want that but you want a mountain climate, I Would go with Ozark mountains in Arkansas/missouri area and forget colorado.
