He's allowed to have a religion after all, this IS America. He's clearly stated many times that he doesn't believe that God picks football winners and losers, yet nearly every criticism I read about him argues against the strawman that Tebow believes God delivers wins for him.
I am a Christian, and I found it offensive when he first thanked "My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" after last week's win. Unlike many fundamentalist Christians, I do not believe that God or Jesus gets involved in who wins a football game; I do not believe that the winner has the strongest faith, the "best" faith, or whatever. I don't really follow Tebow, or even the Broncos all that much; I've never heard him state he doesn't believe that God picks football winners and losers. It seems like he more just implies that.

Personally I think Tebow gets way more credit than he deserves. The only game that I give Tebow a majority of the credit for is the game against Minnesota. He actually threw the ball well, but he was doing it against the worst passing defense in the league.

The biggest keys to Denver's success have been the defense (esp. Vonn Miller and Elvis Dumervil), punter Britton Colquitt, and kicker Matt Prater.

For most of the game the Broncos' offense has all the horsepower of a shetland pony. They move the ball like a 90-year old moves a walker. They're punting the ball 8-10 times per game and the defense is still able to keep the team in the game. To me that's way more impressive than anything Tebow does.

After they beat the Bears the headline was "Tebow Does it Again."

Really? Tebow kicked two 50+ yard field goals, one to end the game and the other in overtime? Did he also strip the ball out of Marion Barber's hands as the Bears were marching down the field in overtime, too?

Tebow deserves some credit for rallying the troops and forcing opposing defenses to rethink their strategy, but a majority of the credit? Not even close.

I agree with you. However, livecontent, you now know there are at least two of us who don't care about football

How beloved are the Broncos in your estimation? How divisive an issue is Tim Tebow in Denver right now? Are there still a lot of Bronco fans who don't want him as your QB of the future, or has pretty much the entire city bought in to him besides Elway? How has his religious fervor (Some would say fanaticism) impacted how the fans view him? Is Denver a highly religious city?

I gotta say, love him or hate him, Tim Tebow sure has made the NFL a very fun sport to be a fan of this season, and Bronco games are must-see events for the entire nation for the first time in a LONG time.
The short of it? It's a big deal.

While, yes, not everyone in Denver loves football, 1) the Broncos are beloved (especially when they do well) and 2) Tebow has blown the top off Broncos love in the last couple of months after some lack-luster seasons and big changes. MANY fans who are not religious are complimentary of and enthused by TT because he seems 100% genuine and excited about his faith -- with no pretense, no ego -- RARE. AND he seems to have gained the trust, confidence and adoration of fellow players which has clearly helped bond this team and help them play better together.... even though they certainly now need to do it much earlier in games.

Let's not forget that Denver is one of few cities in this country with a professional sports team in every category. It IS a big sports town, it IS a big football town.

Full disclosure, I recently moved away from the Denver area but am still immersed in Broncos news via friends and ex-colleagues who run in Denver's football circle.

"Is God actually changing things out there on the field and guiding fieldgoals through goal posts? I don't think so. Having faith in Him gives me faith in myself and I thank God for all the abilities He's given my team." -Tim Tebow, during an interview on ESPN.

While I agree with you on much of this, (especially the last game), the OP wasn't asking about how much credit Tim Tebow should be receiving.

Living in South Florida, we got to see Tebows games when he played at Florida----his style, attitude, and demeanor havent changed.

He has always had an infectious personality----a drive and verve to win---and the ability to get his teammates to buy into that attitude.

I would agree with bluescreen 73 that at times Tebow gets too much credit for winning-----yet it is clear that this guys attitude, fierce competitive nature, and desire to succeed are infectious and do tend to rub off on teammates.

Yes---at times the religous overtones can be a bit pervasive-----that being said, I would rather have him go that way than to read about him on the police blotters.

Im sure Tebow will have significant down periods in the nfl-----teams will figure him out and play him accordingly-----yet with his desire to win, ability to learn, and work ethic, it will be no surprise to me at all if Tebow has a decent nfl career.

He has always sacrificed his body on the field---he has taken more violent hits than any coach would care to see his qb take.

I heard there were two die-hard Broncos fans walking down the street the other day and saw John Elway and Tebow walking on the other side of the street. One guy turned to the other one and asked "Who's that guy with Tebow?".

First off full disclosure. I am a HUGE Bronco fan and I have season tickets. I have been going to Bronco games since I was a kid in the early 80's. However, I am not religious at all, in fact I am agnostic.

That being said I think Tebow is a big deal in Denver and Colorado, not because of his religion but because he is playing good and has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks of all time and more importantly give Denver a Superbowl win, or two or three etc.

Tebow is a very big deal. It's pretty hard not to like him, and not to love what he does on and off the field. Denver is a huge football city anyway, but when you put a remarkable human being who fans can have their kids look up to at quarterback, we're even more enthusiastic.

I remember at the beginning of the year watching a news segment on why fans wanted Tebow to be quarterback. Most people told the camera that they loved how "wholesome" he is, that he can be looked up to and emulated by kids (and adults). He really is a tremendous influence on the community, and I am sure that a lot of the support comes from Christians who want to see somebody like Tebow in a big star-studded position like the one he currently occupies. But even less-devout people seem to really admire him. I've admired him from the day the Broncos drafted him, and it is mostly because I share his Christian faith (I'm Catholic) and love to see Tim provide such a powerful Christian witness. But he has impressed me just as much with his leadeship and football skills. Denver loves Tebow, and it's not hard to see why.
