Hey everyone,

this is my first post on citi-data. My name is Alex and I'm really looking for a trip to the beautifull city of Denver. I was wondering if you guys can help me for a few questions.

Since, I will be looking for a hostel, do you know wich is Denver best Hostel?
Also, what are Denver top attraction that people from outside the state may not know?

And since I'm a big sport fan, I was wondering if you could hep me with that question. Except the Broncos, wich team is most popular in Denver? I'm a big hockey and baseball fan, I remember the Avs were very popular back in the days! But now are the Rockies the second most popular team in town?

Thanks!

We have 5 pro sports in Denver, all are popular. The AVs would be especially good to see if you're a hockey fan from Canada or a city with a strong hockey heritage, otherwise I'd call it a toss up between the Nuggets and the AVs. All of the teams are well supported with a strong following, so pick your favorite and come visit when appropriate.

When are you planning your trip? If you time it right, you can catch an NFL, NBA, and NHL game on a short visit. Or if you come in the spring you can swap out the NFL game for an MLB game.

Denver is a great sports city with good venues. I think you'll enjoy your visit. My personal favorite is seeing the Rockies at Coors Field and then hanging out in LoDo for a few hours after the game. Good times.

Yep, that is the best especially for afternoon ball games. The Avs are always a fun time. Hockey is a great sport to watch in person.

Also, don't forget we have two professional LaCrosse teams, one indoors and outdoors.

I go to admit, it's really nice to see a city embrance the 4 sports with such passion. Just for fun if the 4 teams were the all the best in their own league(or all equally good) for the next 5 years what could the popularity ranking look like?

Also do you know why the Rockies are call the ''Rox''?

Thanks!

Denver would hardly be able to contain itself if all four of its sports teams were the best in their given league all at once. With that said, all four of them are a long ways off. The Nuggets appeared to be the closest, but we'll see how this NBA lockout affects them. I don't really follow the NBA though.

The Rockies are called the "Rox" for short. Sort of how Packers fans sometimes refer to their team as "The Pack" or Padres fans call their team "the Friars."

Also, if you are ever watching ESPN or MLB Channel discussion during the MLB playoffs, you'll hear analysts wrongly use the term "Rocktober" to describe the MLB Playoffs. I say "wrongly use" because unless the Rockies are in the playoffs, it's not Rocktober. That is a term that Rockies fans created in 2007 when the team made its amazing run to the World Series. Analysts still use it, even though in the four seasons since that run the Rox have made only one playoff appearance.

Avs are down in popularity and sadly having 3 teams under a corporate owner is hurting the competitiveness of the Avs and Rapids and soon enough the Nuggets. The Avs and Rapids have league bottom payrolls and the Nuggets arent exactly spending a bunch. I dont bemoan the Kroenke's trying to make a profit but its showing how the fans hate them and arent buying tickets. If it werent for the fact that there are even more desperate situations elsewhere I would think one of the franchises might move since to the Kroenke's there is no loyalty, just the bottom line.

All three franchises will stay put, but only because E. Stanley owns the Pepsi Center and Dick's Sporting Goods Park. It makes no fiscal sense to move one of the tenants out of his buildings to pay rent somewhere else.

You are right about the bottom line though. Rent at the Pepsi Center is so high that the state high school basketball championships are played at CU rather than at the Can.

Oh but that is the beauty of the KSE model. Stan the Man...oops he doesn't run these teams anymore, wink wink...could have one moved to KC and its completed building and squeeze them for a better deal than he gets himself in his own building. Then he tries the squeeze again to take over the local sports channel where the real money is. Before you know it he's made mediocrity rule in 2 cities. Yeah far fetched when there are even more desperate teams out there, but I wouldn't put it by this penny pinching outfit.
