I don't want it as dense as Midtown (population wise), I just want the look of it. I'm trying to escape the traffic nightmares and large crowds. I love the skyscrapers and business people though.

If you Google Map this address:

817 17th Street Denver, CO 80202

You will see what I want.

I understand exactly what you need as I worked and lived in Manhattan, many years ago. Then you need to live exacly in the Central Business District. This post of mine will help you select a place. You will find many high end apartments and condos that are available for lease.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are in your 20s (maybe early 30s), Capitol Hill should be on your list of neighborhoods to check out. It is close to downtown, cheaper than Lodo and close to nightlife. It is also one of the denser neighborhoods in Denver. Denver is very different from NY, so prepare yourself. It's not better or worse, just different.

Sounds good. Thank you for the information Lisa. I am 18 by the way.

However, I heard that Capitol Hill is a bit violent, is that true?

I have friends that live in Cap Hill and I haven't heard about any serious violence...some noise, perhaps, and some eccentric people, but the area is more hipster than rough & tumble.

The address you gave earlier is pretty much the commerce district. There isn't much for apartments right there, but a couple blocks away there's a fair amount of apartments, condos and even houses, though the neighborhoods the house are in can be a little rougher (not terrible, mind you, but certainly a touch more "gritty.")

Everyone is right, but you seem to understand that it's a far cry from Midtown. That said, there's plenty to do, even within walking and biking distance, though like any new place you'll need to be willing to venture out there to find it and really embrace it. I find most people that disagree with the statement "there's plenty to do" around downtown Denver are far more interested in the quantity of things around than the quality.

That said, grocery shopping (or even finding anything like a proper deli or market) downtown is a difficult affair.

I thought I had read something on City Data saying that Capitol Hill was a more violent area, but either way, it doesn't really matter to me.

And yes, Denver is definitely different than Midtown. You raised a great point about the quality of things to do over the quantity. Sometimes have more can get overwhelming.

I'll keep looking into Cap Hill and other places.

I checked these places out on Google Maps and Bing Maps and they don't look as urban as I thought they'd be.
Most neighborhoods in denver are suburban by new york standards. Lodo is the only neighborhood approaching a true urban scale. You will be searching in vain if you are looking for something like manhattan in denver.

You can't have the skyscrapers without the traffic and crowds. You have to take the good with the bad.

As far as urban goes, I want it to be as close to New York City as it can get!
sounds like you should stay in nyc, or maybe check out chicago. why have you decided on denver?

Haha, you really tore my posts apart and made it seem like I'm not open to taking the good with the bad.

I decided on Denver because when I visited, everyday was great weather. My allergies seemed to clear up (I didn't have to take my prescription medication for 2 weeks straight). I also have dry skin and the white patches of psoriasis cleared right up too. I like Denver also because it is friendly to people who like to mountain bike, which is one of my biggest hobbies.

just wanted to make sure you weren't moving here with too many misconceptions which is very common. i moved from nyc as well and it was a culture shock giving up so many urban amenities, but if you like the mountains and open space you can't go wrong.
