I am well aware of the current BSL's in Denver, Aurora, and some of the other surrounding towns but does anyone have any first hand or second hand experiences with renting in some of the places without bans? such as Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Englewood for starters. I am a Pit Bull owner in Upstate New York who is looking to move to the Denver area to be closer to family and because I've fallen in love with the city on all my trips to visit said family. I already know living within city limits is out of the question but how difficult is it going to be for me to find something close to the city that allows my dog. Any advice or personal accounts would be great!!

Count apartments out....the last apartment I lived in had a laundry list of banned breeds.

You would have to find a like minded individual owner willing to rent to you. I've been looking for my sister and it's really tough.

Apartments aside from any breed bans also may have a size limit of 20 lbs or less.

Renting from a person would be a better way to go. Although they may deny you as well or make you carry your own insurance.

You can check on Craig's for rentals. Maybe you can put an ad up on Craig's saying you have a pit who is well behaved, house broken etc etc and see if you get any offers. I would also be careful of the area and person. There are some really nice people on Craig's but there are also nuts, scams, and cons on there.

A town near me does not have a ban like Denver but it does have one where any pits from a certain year and back are "grandfathered" in but you have to carry hefty insurance. So no new pit bulls are allowed.

I've seen PitBulls in Lakewood around the BelMar Park Area, tons of apartments. Not sure which one allows them though.

Some of the surrounding cities ban various breeds also. Make sure you check with any city your considering before signing a lease.

Yeah, I've been keeping myself pretty educated about what cities and towns have the ban but its hard to gauge the overall sentiment of people themselves and landlords from across the country. I've posted an ad on CL in housing wanted even though the move isn't planned until July 1st, might as well start looking now and maybe a landlord will have a property opening up around then. Thanks for all the replies so far! Keep em coming!

I too am looking for a house to rent with my pit. It has not been easy! I'm still looking and have 4 weeks till we move. Starting to get a little desperate because there are so few options.

Rentals in general (good ones) are extremely hard to find right now, regardless of whether you have a pit bull are not. It's tough out there. Most landlords of homes just have to put a for rent sign out front and it's gone. Good luck!!
