I am a single mother with one child who will be relocating to Denver area next week due to a transfer with my job. I will be staying with a friend in the Thornton area while I get my footing down in CO. However I need to hit the pavement right away to find a good school that offers a speech program, a decent rental in a good area with little or no crime, daycare that handles the out of the norm shifts (I work for a major airline). Just for starters....

I have been to Denver several times over the last few months to check things out however it has become overwhelming with choices. I have utilized padmapper, great schools, and numerous threads on here. I am super excited to me relocating I just want to make sure I am making the right choice for my son.

So any advice, opinoins, or personal experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You all in advance!

You didn't really say where the job or where you are looking? The denver metro area is huge, you wouldn't want to live on the north side and work on the south side, etc..

if she works for an airline, i'm assuming she'll be on the east side...

How old is your child? Are you looking for an apartment, condo or a house?

I apoligize for leaving out the key factors, I will be working at DIA and my son will turn 5 in August. I will need to enroll him in full day Kindergarden. I am looking to rent a townhome if possible but otherwise an apt or condo. 2 bd preferable.

I have looked into Adams 12 5 Star as well as Mapleton district as I will be staying in Thorton for the interim. I have looked at DPS and of course Cherry Creek district. Im just not sure I can afford a decent rental in CCSD. Numerous people have told me not to send him to DPS and at all costs stay out of Aurora, Federal Hts, Montbelo, & Green Valley Ranch.

I will drive up to 45 minute commute to DIA if it means less expensive rent & good school. Im just nervous that I will have to sacrifice housing to find schools & vice versa.

Thank You again for all your help.

What is your rent budget? That way folks can assist you with specific suggestions.

For example here is a 2 bdrm in an A rated school area.

It is a quiet, upscale area about 30-35 min. to the airport and very close to grocery and shopping. I can't help with speech program, you would need to call the school. I also don't know about daycare that handles out of the norm shift hours.

Consider Stapleton, and I disagree about DPS. It depends on the school.

I'd say go for Stapleton, too, if it's in your price range. It's very close to the airport, and you will be surrounded by families with young children.

That's not usually the way it works. Good housing usually equates to good schools.

What do you mean regarding a school with a speech program? Does your son have special needs?

I would also say those "numerous people" are wrong about their blanket statements.
