10 years ago -give or take - I moved away from Denver to "find myself". Divorced, with a good job offer, and needing space from my family, I moved to Seattle. And I've loved it.

Now it is time for me to come back to Denver-for my family. And in some ways I've missed it. I did grow up here and I have a list of pros, no worries.

But my big concern is looking for ways to meet new friends. Things change after 10 years. I am 40, female, single, open-minded, I am not actively looking for a romantic relationship right now. I don't know where to post this, or what forums to use, but I do believe in the power of the intertubes.

If you are interested in conversing, or have an idea as to how I can achieve my goal, please respond so we may chat further.

Thanks.

JaeRae, whenever I've gone to a new (or not-so-new) place, I usually find something to volunteer for. Gets me out and about, meeting new people who care about an issue/organization that matters to me. Will you be caretaking for family members? If so, it's even more important for you to do things just for you. Go outdoors, hit the Farmers' Markets, walk, bike, head toward outdoor music/dancing, go to a class of some kind, attend a reading at The Tattered Cover, enjoy yourself and smile at people (Sometimes shocks the heck out of them!). Church? Coffee Shop? Theater? Sports? Act like a tourist for a while, rediscover Denver with a fresh eye -- and try not to compare everything to where you've been. Go to places/events that make you happy - and don't be afraid to say Hello. Some will respond well, others won't. In any event, Welcome Home.

Check out Meetup.org. It's been useful to me here. And get a dog if you don't have one (and if you like them). A lot of social interaction here happens through pets.

That's what I was going to say! I was lucky that I had a few friends already living here when I moved out. I feel like most people here are pretty receptive to meeting new people. I think I'm going to try meetup myself just to expand my circle of friends and hopefully get into some new hobbies. Welcome home!

Thanks for the advice. I have checked out meetup.org and there are a couple of groups I am interested in. I am not sure when I will be in Denver for good. It could be a few months, depending on the job situation. in the menatime does anyone know of any other forums or internet sites (Besides Craigslist?) I can post and make connections, maybe get to know people via email?
