Default Considering Denver for Relocation?

My husband and I and our son are considering relocating to Denver or Oregon? I know we can find jobs there, one of my concerns is; How is Denver on diversity? How is the racism there if any? We are country folks that love Colorado and were actually married there last year in Aspen. My husband is caucasian, I'm hispanic and my son is hispanic/african american.
We are all hard working people that are tired of the L.A. life.

Could someone shed some light on this subject? Thank you

Denver proper and parts of Aurora have much more diversity than you will find in the outlying suburbs. There are some places like Greeley, where illegal immigration is a sore spot, where you will find racial tensions. Otherwise, I don't think that you will find too many racial tensions. Surely, not like in LA. Though, there are some people of color that feel uncomfortable with so many white folk around in CO. You can see that in many posts on this forum.

Here are the race stats for some cities in the Metro Denver region (as of 2005):

Order: Caucasian, African American, Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander, Other, 2+ races, Hispanic/Latino of any race. "--" means unspecified.

Denver: 82.9%, 10.6%, 3.1%, 1.4%, 0.2%, --, 1.9%, 34.7%
Aurora: 68.86%, 13.42%, 0.81%, 4.37%, 0.18%, 8.14%, 4.23%, 19.81%
Lakewood: 87.15%, 1.48%, 2.72%, 1.11%, 0.08%, 4.88%, 2.58%, 14.54%
Golden: 90.66%, 1.03%, 2.99%, 1.05%, 0.06%, 1.98%, 2.24%, 6.59%
Westminster: 84.19%, 1.23%, 5.48%, 0.74%, 0.08%, 5.52%, 2.76%, 15.23%
Northglenn: 83.04%, 1.52%, 3.07%, 1.14%, 0.15%, 8.13%, 2.94%, 20.27%
Broomfield: 88.62%, 0.92%, 4.14%, 0.61%, 0.04%, 3.21%, 2.45%, 9.07%
Boulder: 88.33%, 1.22%, 4.02%, 0.48%, 0.05%, 3.50%, 2.40%, 8.24%
Englewood: 87.77%, 1.46%, 1.86%, 1.31%, 0.09%, 4.99%, 2.52%, 13.05%

I'm caucasian, but at least from my perspective there isn't much racial tension. Note that by most people's definitions, "Hispanic" is typically included in "Caucasian" numbers.

I am from oregon, now live in Denver area. I saw more discrimination in Oregon than here. It is pretty diverse here.

City-Data gives these stats for Denver:

Races in Denver:

White Non-Hispanic (51.9%)
Hispanic (31.7%)
Other race (15.6%)
Black (11.1%)
Two or more races (3.7%)
American Indian (2.2%)
Vietnamese (0.8%)

I read recently that Denver is now a "majority-minority" town, that is, a majority of the population is now minortiy races.

When I visited my parents out in Aurora, I seen plenty of Asian's, which is what my mom likes. IMHO if there is a military base near by, more then likely diversity will be all over the place. So that in mind, check out Colorado Springs also.

Denver Colorado is the most welcoming state for differences that I have ever experienced. You will have no problem in this area--we love to have you.
