North of downtown would be 28th and blake area and around there; it's still strictly urban but coming along nicely. Also, parts of five points which some will tell you is crime ridden but is way past that old 60s-70s reputation and on the rehab side of the market. also the housing area just south of the UCD/metro campus is an area I would invest in if I could, it's mixed low to middle income now and has to go up because of real estate pressures in the area.

Going west from downtown on 20th or 38th you pass through the valley which is railroads and condos that I mentioned, up the hill to "Highlands".

I like capital hill, a lot, there are some very wonderful older homes and neighborhoods there, and work there, but did not buy a house there due to concerns about walking freedom for my adult handicapped daughter and crime. The general rule is, the more rental/short term housing in an area, the more potential crime. the Piton foundation has a terrific site on Denver neighborhoods and schools.

Colfax is notorious, but I walked down there all the time at night and never had problems. Also, City Park has one of the best bike paths in the area- I often used it to bike from Washington St. to Park Hill for my job and was blessed to see beautiful swans floating on the reflected mountain skyline.
oh,great I was thinking about capitol hill,thanks a lot

I agree with smurf_goddess. I think all of the areas she mentioned are perfect for bike riding and easy commutes. I live in Congress Park and am always on my bike. My husband rides his bike to work downtown as well. You could also consider West City Park. It's close to Uptown and Lodo. There is a bike path into downtown along 16th Street west of City Park.

I'm helping a couple who just moved here from NYC (right near the former World Trade Centers) about a month ago. They have been renting in Park Hill. It's a little further east (East of Colorado Blvd) but is very near City Park. You could easily still ride everywhere.
