Big C,
Can you tell me how long it would take to commute from Golden to Boulder during rush hour? Also, how long it would take to commute from Golden to S. Lowell Blvd. in Denver, 80236 off of 285N? Thanks.

Golden is sort of spread out from North to South. If you went from the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 93, I would give myself 30-40 minutes to Boulder and a few minutes more for the S. Lowell/285 location. These are my best guesses but I really don't go either one of those ways during rush hour.

Need help finding an apartment in Golden...FAST
Hi,
I was just offered a teaching job and am moving to Wheat Ridge or Golden...soon! I am having great difficulty finding an apartment/house that allows pets (I have a 9 year old boxer). I would prefer to live near downtown Golden. Does anyone have any info about finding apartments/houses in the area? Everyone I have spoken to have said that most people just stick a sign in the yard. I'm out of state so driving around isn't an option. Craigslist doesn't have much or they have all been rented. I am supposed to be moving in...ha...2 weeks Any leads would be greatly appreciated, as the panic is setting in

Don't panic. If you have a friend you can stay with for a while, that would help. If not, maybe you could afford a motel for a week or so while you look. The school district that hired you might be able to help by giving you some names of people that might be willing to house you for a short time while you look. Once you get here, you will probably find a place fast.

Golden internet/phone/cable bundle
We are new to Denver and will be moving to Golden next month - thank you all very much for the input, by the way...helped point us in the right direction!
Question - we are going to need to set up a bundled internet/phone/cable package and are not sure to go with Qwest or Comcast. I'd like to find out what Golden residents have been most satisfied with.
We will be renting a 13 yr. old house off Ford St. if you need that information.
Thank you!

I lived in Golden for several years. It can get more snow than Denver. It is well-favored to get big "dumps" of snow when an "upslope" storm sets up. That said, snow doesn't tend to stay around too long. Golden also gets strong Chinook winds in winter, which are fairly warm and melt snow quickly. I have grown to hate what the Front Range has become, but--if I had to live there somewhere--Golden would be one of my top picks.

More than one. 80401, 80402, 80403, 80419 - parts of Nederland shares the Golden Zip
Golden Colorado: From 1862 to 1867, Golden was the capitol of Colorado Territory and a center of railroad activity. Today, Golden is the county seat of Jefferson County. The major attraction and employer is the Coors Brewery. One of the nation's top earth science universities, the Colorado School of Mines, is located in Golden as is the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI). Golden is nestled at the base of the foothills and provides residents with a small town atmosphere only 15 miles west of downtown Denver.
Golden's main street has unique shops, galleries, fine restaurants, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, the territorial capital building and the 1800 Astor House built as a boarding house for the early legislature. Other attractions include a Railroad Museum, Heritage Square, Boettcher mansion, Hiwan Homestead and the Buffalo Bill Museum atop Lookout Mountain.
Golden, a picturesque, foothill town is a popular choice for many relocating to the area. Town government desiring to limit growth of the town have placed a building moratorium on the building permits that can be obtained. By limiting new homes sales, the town maintains it's atmosphere. The scarcity of available homes has made home values go up, making Golden an expensive, never the less, nice place to live.
Many long time residents resent Denver for taking away their Capitol city status. Also home to the Jeffco County offices and Jail.
