I don't deny traffic is bad, but not even close to Boston's and many other cities. Boston's rush hour is from 5 am - midnight Sunday through Saturday (not really, but it's horrible).

Oh brother. I wasn't going to respond to this, but will anyway.
Ex-SoCal guy? I am a CO native. I do not consider myself a SoCal guy in the least.
On weather, you don't so much exaggerate, you over emphasize the bad weather and underplay the good weather. Which I have pointed out before.
As for traffic, your use of the term "parking lot" is IMO an exaggeration. Especially regarding C-470, which I happen to live near and drive more than you likely do (seeing as you live in Parker and commute to Denver).
Anyways, if you don't like it here that much, I'm really surprised that you haven't already moved. Maybe your co-worker should too.

Sorry! I didn't like what I posted and tried to delete it but couldn't (even wrote the Administrator and ask to have it deleted).
Anyway, you are right and so am I. The traffic out here "can be" bad, but there are definitely other places in the US where it is worse (like SoCal). Also, sorry for saying you are from SoCal. Bottom line is, there are many people who live here that think the Denver metro area is a "utopia" for living in and my wife and I just don't necessarily see it that way. And, my co-worker has been getting fairly upset because of all the California license plates that he has seen recently in different areas. He told me, "there are just too many people moving here and those darn people from SoCal that move here just don't know how to drive in the snow and don't care how they drive. Of course, many, many people blame things here on people from SoCal (what else is new). Don't necessarily know why, but they do.

LoveBoating, you can always edit your posts to remove its content. If you do it before anyone sees it, then it is equivalent to deleting the post.

I think you only have 60 or 90 minutes after you have posted to edit.

these rankings, i'm finding, are often pretty non-scientific. for example, denver was for a while "the best place for singles" (which many would argue with), "a top 10 'green' city" (which i am still trying to figure out and feel i must be missing something), etc.. that said, the denver metro area population is growing quickly, and in just a few years, i have personally noticed what seems to me like an increase in crowding all over the front range. t-rex was pretty tough for a while, so i guess that didn't help matteres. i25 and i70 TEND to be pretty tame now, in my experience, relative to other metro areas, though i70 gets kind of gnarly to and from the mountain resorts, and this IS for "rush hour", so... and get off of those and into some of the burbs (287, e.g.) during rush hour, and it can get pretty ugly. not to mention that, while the volume may or may not be there in denver - though considering the suburbanization of the area, it would make sense - it seems to me that the PACE and "savvy" of many drivers in the area can be a bit iffy at the least. (and what's with stop lights at the ends of acceleration ramps? and people have to be reminded with street signs that passing lanes are for passing...and they still don't head to that?)
improvements to light rail could be very helpful...

They are supposed to meter traffic onto the highways during rush hour, so traffic continues to flow without a bunch of cars merging in at once. I don't know how really effective they are. Personally, I find them a nuisance.

I think they're also intended to discourage people from using the freeways for short 1-2 exit hops by making it take longer to get onto the freeway.

i understand the intent. but, that it's even necessary seems maybe indicative of SOMEthing, and i agree - not convinced they're that much more effective relative to just letting people ultimately figure it out and get used to it, maybe with a little judicious enforcement and driver's ed...

You'd probably be surprised at what passes for driver's ed these days. We paid over $600 to make sure our teenage daughter got some decent training in the classroom and behind the wheel. Plus we made sure she got plenty of time behind the wheel, with us, in all sorts of driving situations. Most parents won't bother spending the money for a good course and will just falsify the driving log that the DMV requires.
