suburb of denver low crime rate, good schools and oriented toward small children
We are moving to Denver in October and do not know anything about where to buy a home. Most important is low crime rate, good schools and things to do for an only child that is 3 yrs old. Any suggestions of good housing developments or suburbs that fit this criteria?

What research have you already done? October is a couple of weeks away. I researched for one year before I moved to Colorado.
What is your budget (buying/renting)?
Where will you be working?
What line of work are you in?

Commuting is definitely something to consider. What about you favorite activities?
Average age of a Denver area resident is 35 - so every where is fairly family friendly except downtown and LoDo. The Mayor of Denver lived in LoDo - but moved last year to Park Hill so his son, Teddy, could have more room to grow.
What else is important to you?

It would be nice to have a "sticky" on these kind of requests since they pop up almost daily.

We found out 4 weeks ago that my husband was being transferred to Denver with the government. We want to buy a home for about $250,000. Haven't really done much research. We are going on a house hunting trip very shortly.

I have an only child that is 2 1/2 years old and we are 46 years old. What is important is to live in an area that is geared for things to do for small children. We just came from a county in Virginia that really had nothing for children except one drippy playground in the entire county. Also what is important is to be close to good medical care or an excellent hospital.

If your budget was a bit higher, I'd recommend Highlands Ranch. There are tons of kids here. It is hard to find a street without kids. We have 4 rec centers and they always have activites and classes going on there. There are also other community activites. We also have the excellent Douglas County school district.
Where exactly in Denver will your husband be working? That will help us steer you to communities within a resonable commute and within your price range.

You can buy a house in HR for less than $220,000 - in fact, there are 5 of them on the market now. 9 under $225,000.

I am a bit surprised by that. I assume these are pretty small homes. Are these SF detached?
