I live in a single family home close to DTC, in what we like to call the "cheaper part of the tech center" - houses built in the late 1970's. We are in the area that you describe. Houses in our neighborhood rent for between $1500 and $2000 a month.

There are lots of new condos on DTC Blvd and scattered around in DTC, but you won't find any of new condos renting in your price range.

You could look north of I-225; there are lots of older apartment and condo buildings that may be more in your price range. Still a ten minute drive to most of the offices in the tech center. Also check out the numerous buildings west of I-25 north of Belleview Avenue; some very nice apartments there but, again, may be out of your price range.

The only area that I would consider "undesireable" are the apartments on Peakview Avenue between Havana and Dayton. Too many cheap rentals and no control by management.

traffic can be bad during the week, but there is almost no traffic on weekends. it becomes like a ghost town.

traffic is much worse along arapahoe and along I-25 than within the confines of DTC. belleview can get backed up.

i believe DTC is considered part of greenwood village. some of it, at least. as a resident of greenwood village, i think you would be entitled to a recreation rebate every month.

-Is the DTC considered a safe neighborhood? (I have already read that there is no nightlife - that's not really a problem.)
it's pretty safe. there's not much nightlife. dtc is pretty much just office buildings, a few residences, and a handful of strip malls.

-Are utilities costlier in the DTC?
no.

-Anyone have any recommendations on renting an apartment vs. renting a condo in the area?
not at this time.

-Is it much more important to have a garage rather than simply covered parking?
garage is ideal. heated garage would be great.

-Are insects a problem in the area?
no.

Thanks again. I'll keep that location info in mind, especially the heads-up on the "undesireable" area. That's exactly the info I needed.
