I am sorry, the comment wasn't directed at you. It was directed at another poster. I am stating a fact. Redfin does not typically sell houses in your price range. It would not be a good idea to not have experience on your side.

They have sold 41 properties in the last 12 months, median price $374,200. An average of 5 per broker, one every two months. They have 8 active licensees.

You will never know what I can help you with, if you choose not to ask.

1. All "regular" real estate agents, including 2bindenver, hate Redfin because Redfin is slowly, but surely, lowering the average commission.
2. I did not suggest using Redfin on the sell side. I said on the buy side.

3. When we sold our house in 2011, we used a full-service agent because it was a buyers' market and we needed the marketing expertise that she and her company brought to the table. we negotiated a lower commission (5%) because...
4. We also used her on the buy side to compensate for the discounted commission on the sell side. She did almost zero work on the buy side.
5. I found the neighborhood (Berkeley) that we bought in.
6. I found all the houses that we considered.
7. All she did was unlock the doors for us.
8. That is how I would use Redfin. And, then, they would kick back some money.

And, what did MingMing write: "Looking on my own now."?

I am using redfin to look up homes, not using one of their agents. But an agent doesn't have any more updated info than redfin, they may deny it but I have yet to see where they do, except for a random pocket listing they may run across now and then. I always get the same homes I see on Redfin.

Overall, I find agents to be totally useless unless you aren't familiar with an area, but then you are depending on their idea of a great neighborhood vs what you may feel.

Right now if I see house I like I contact the listing agent directly to show me the house. The last agent I contacted was pretty cute! So I am considering using him, he kind of reminded me of one of the guys on million dollar listing. lol I know not the right reason to hire someone but I liked him.

Please return and post your experiences. We are waiting with baited breath.

Realtors do not choose the house a buyer might buy. They use their experience in pricing and their knowledge of what other buyer paid other sellers in negotiations. They can help identify areas not considered, based on what exactly the buyer tells us. They can crater a good deal if that is what the client wants. They can offer strategies, options and contingency plans that a client may need.

A good listing broker will get the job done (as in a closing) for the buyer, but it will not be the perfect deal (or even a fair deal) for the buyer.

For the record, there is no such thing as a discount broker in real estate. There are no set commissions. So there cannot be a discount from a standard fee.

I am not a hater. I do not care about what other brokers make or don't make on a deal. I care about a great experience for my client. Great service is what I can take to the bank.

"Spelling is an integral part of grammar, which defines proper word usage. Some rules of grammar pertain specifically to spelling, such as plurals and possessives."
