My mom is out here visiting from another state and I would like to take her out for a nice meal. Something where business casual attire would be sufficient and not a date type of place.

Any recommendations for something a little unique or a place with killer food? We are based in central Denver.

Great Sunset view too if you ask for an upstairs table

Truly unique? The Buckhorn Exchange. Lots of history with a definite Western motif.

Linger
Root Down
Bittersweet
Trillium
Coohills
Iakaya Den

All of these are downtown or in the Highlands except Izakaya which is in Platt Park.

How old's your mom? All of those places are good but a lot are really crowded, loud and "hipster-ish". No matter where I take my mom, she always like to go back to Charlie Brown's. Another one that is more old-school is the Ship's Tavern at the Brown Palace.

You're right and I didn't think about it being someone's mom. Those places I mentioned can be a bit loud but if you don't mind the noise, the food is delish! I saw someone else recommend Z-cuisine which I think is a perfect if you want quaint and quiet. Also Barolo in Cherry Creek although big is a bit more quiet if you like Italian.

AJ... My favorite restaurant in Denver is across from Union Station in LoDo. Venice. Authentic Italian food, beautiful wine, decent prices, pasta is made in-house. Just pulled up their website & I see there's another in Greenwood Village... not sure if that's newer because I don't recall that location in 2010, but I'm returning to Denver this month & Venice is first on my list to visit!!! The downtown location also has splendid views if you sit next to the front window. I can't wait!

I had lobster ravioli with cream sauce & my SO had linguini with muscles... we also had antipasto & a salad (not sure which... it was 1-yr ago). All brilliant. We're healthy but big eaters... so glad we exercise otherwise we'd look like bouncing balls.

Whichever you choose, have a grand time with your mum!
