My family and I are moving from NJ to the Denver area. We are hoping to make the move in December, and will be flying out for one week to find a rental home.

One thing that has us puzzled are realtors in Colorado. We've spoke to a few realtors and they don't want to work with us on a rental. This is very different from what we're used to in NJ.

Does everyone in Colorado just use craigslist for finding a rental home? Since we are coming from out of state and aren't familiar with the area, I was hoping to meet someone that could help show us some properties, answer questions about different neighborhoods, ect.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Try padmapper.com to find rentals; heed the scammer warnings on craigslist.

There are property managers (who are not realtors) who handle a lot of rentals in the Denver area. When we decided to rent out our home, we went to a property management company and let them do the credit checks, contracts, etc.

Realtors are not really used for rentals here. Best of luck, too, the rental market out here is tight, especially on single family homes!

We noticed the same thing. Luckily for me, it is just my wife and I moving out. We are just going to move into an apartment for the year until we can truly scope the place out and by then either buy a house or rent a house. It is definitely tough finding living arrangements remotely.

The local MLS doesnt take rentals so a realtor has no advantage. A few will help you a little bit if you convince them your plan is to buy a place within a year, but those are mostly newer agents who need to build up their network.

How big of a place are you looking for? How about renting an apartment for 6 months? That's what I would recommend. What area are you looking to move to?

Zillow.com...........realtor.com........both sites have plenty of rentals...the centennial/lone tree area is nice. lots of shopping, dining and the rail system is nearby. I-25/470 area (South of Denver)...good luck.
