Have you checked out SkyRidge Medical Center? It's a new, extremely beautiful, hospital near Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch. The area is awesome.
They have a website (just google it in). Several of my doctors practice there - the care received is wonerful.
P.S. Did I mention just how beautiful it is...

Children's and U of Colo Hospitals are the ones located on the Anschutz (not Fitzsimmons) campus. I don't know of any others.

This is a helpful thread. I am a RN and will complete my BSN in May 08. I also want to move to the Denver area.

I really appreciate all the recommendations, I will definetely look into those options. I can't wait to come and visit, my to-do list is getting quite lengthy. I thought I might throw this out there, but I am also looking into Portland, Oregon and working at Legacy Emanuel. Apparently they have a wonderful internship program and is also a teaching hospital. I really want to start in a level I trauma center, no matter how long the internship program is, I think that I would benefit from that the most in the long run. Has anyone worked or spent time in the Portland area? if so, what made you return to Colorado and which has the best outdoor enthusiasts?
Thanks again

I will give you the same advice I gave someone else wanting to come here and get a nursing job so she can be close to skiing: do NOT mention that in an interveiw. Ditto in Portland, I would imagine. I have been on some hiring committees. When someone is asked "why do you want this job?", and they respond, "I want to come to Colorado to ski", the resume often gets tossed. Yes, we all know why people want to come here to live, but a hiring manager is looking at why you want to work in their facility. If they ask what your hobbies are, you can say skiing if you want, but keep it low key.

I just wanted to put in another plug for Broomfield. Broomfield has a nice range of house prices and options, low crime, nice/great recreation facilities, and depending on your location, a nice view of the mountains.
Within a very short drive is Avista, Good Samaritan and the soon to be new satellite branch of Children's Hospital on HWY 7.
The city of Broomfield seems to be doing many things right. Walmart and Anthem would be my only qualms with the city/county at the moment.
There is plenty of extra inventory in the housing market at the moment in Broomfield - so there are plenty of bargains to be had.

Anschutz Medical Campus (previously Fitzsimons)
I highly recommend looking into UC Denver-Anchutz Medical Campus in Aurora (previously Fitzsimons) for nursing while you're deciding. This new location is notoriously "bad" but the facilities are brand new, apparently quite impressive and the surrounding area is basically being scraped (bulldozed and rebuilt; Fitzsimons Village, Fitzsimons Palisades, Fitzsimons Promenade, Hilton Garden Inn-Fitzsimons, Shops at Fitzsimons, 21 Fitzsimons, Brent's Place, etc.). Evergreen is GREAT and one of my really good friends moved from MI as a nurse but ended up liking UC Denver, where I go to school, the best. She commutes from Evergreen to Aurora now, which is a long drive in my opinion. She lives in the foothills and is very outdoorsy so doesn't mind driving to work and enjoying the mountains while home. I HATE driving so I bought an affordable house near the AMC campus and WALK to work, and drive to snow board on the weekends. Ski traffic can get really harry but if you time it, it can be ok. Most of the educational schools just transferred to the AMC campus from the old Colorado Blvd/9th Ave Campus this past January so now campus is mostly complete and the surrounding area consists of construction sites, many of which are supposed to be completed by the fall for the new school year. If you're looking to buy, this is probably THE most "up and coming" campus in the country. I doubt most people could afford to buy a ranch in walking distance of a medical campus of this caliber anywhere else. An insane investment opportunity in my opinion. If you're not looking to buy though it's still a great convenience to be able to walk to school/work and not pay exorbitant rent. BUT unless you work, go to school on campus, or invest in property I wouldn't really consider living here. Take a look though and best of luck! I hope you find a great job in CO!
