Yes, I'll have my car (and couldn't imagine giving it up completely). But if my job winds up being in Denver Metro, I want to be able to take bus/rail because it can shave off 10 mins each way. Not to mention I hate driving in traffic and I've seen pics of I-10 during rush hour.
I'm staying close to Wadsworth/North Arvada/Olde Arvada myself. It seems you can walk to most everything you need, if desired. Arvada has miles upon miles of bike trails. I can't wait to try them! Here's a video about them from the Arvada City's website, if you're interested -
^ yeah the arvada parks look nice! my first week i'm just going to explore around and get to know the area as best i can, get any supplies i need, maybe apply to some jobs, and go down I-70 through the mountains and hopefully do a little snowboarding =) ....how about you? you into skiing or snowboarding?
I've never been skiing or snowboarding before, but I'd like to try them. I think it's a semi-requirement when you live in Colorado to go skiing! I do love hiking and biking, though.
Where I'm at in Florida there aren't any good places to ride my bike. And I'm not a "long walks on the beach" kind of person, either. The humidity makes me feel tired, and I've pretty much been a lazy slug under the air-conditioning. I've felt really cooped up the past 2 years and can't wait to be outside again. Of course, the altitude is probably going to wipe me out for a while.

yeah i can't wait to see how this altitude effects me....hopefully its not to bad ...highest elevation i've been is around 3600 ft. lol not even comparable to the 14,000 ft in the mountains .................so your leaving tomorrow?
I wish I were leaving tomorrow! I've been reading the Denver Post and just heard about the shooting of 5 people in Federal Heights and the slaying just northeast of Arvada that happened last night. The crime may scare me away before I even get there.
damn thats crazy! happens everywhere tho sadly.....crime can't be worse then Florida its getting bad around Palm Beach County all tho i feel safe here in Boca lol .....yeah bright and early monday morning
Federal Heights is notorious for having a bad rep. Things are starting to turn around with some investment and development but there are times when its a little sketchy in certain parts. The only time when we go up there is for water world during the summer, which is a blast!

Leaving next Thursday. You're leaving Monday?
Federal Hts is not "just" NE of Arvada. It's actually quite a ways east. Not that those things can't happen anywhere, but they're rare.
Thanks, guys! The information re: Federal Heights makes me feel better! I know crime can happen anywhere, but it still makes me nervous. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. We kept our cars running while we ran into the post office and regularly walked back to our apartments from downtown at 2 AM. Living in Florida has given me a little more of a "big city" experience, but I'm not an expert yet!
Everyone keeps telling me I shouldn't read Denver's news before I even get there, but I can't help it. I'm a born researcher. Or a born neurotic, however you want to look at it!
Thanks, pittnurse, it's hard to tell how far apart the cities are just by looking at the map. Besides, my "panic" tends to make things disproportionate.

Oh man, just take it easy when you first get up here. Don't push yourself too hard. Depending on how good of shape you are in when you get here you will feel the altitude, perhaps not as much in the Denver area but definitely when you are riding.
On a side note-Keystone opens today. YAY!
