The eastern plains of Colorado tend to be more humind, along with the "urban heat islands" of the Front Range metroplex. Grand Junction/Palisade is the hottest area in western Colorado, with numerous days over 100 every year. Humidity there is almost always low.

Probably the hottest sizable city in Colorado is Pueblo. Temperatures there regularly top 100 in the summer and, under the right conditions, it can get muggy on some days. Greeley can get pretty warm, too. The Front Range cities do not cool off as readily at night as do the towns in Colorado's western valleys. Still, there is considerable cooling at night in most places in Colorado.

People's comments about the intensity of the sun should not be dismissed. There is much less atmosphere to shield a person from UV rays at Colorado's altitude. A Colorado sunburn can be a serious injury. Colorado also has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the U.S. Most native Coloradans who spend their lives in the region (and I am one) usually wind up with pretty leathery skin by the time they hit middle-age--the sun and dry air is just that rough on skin.

Yes, but not as intense. Colorado is one of the few places wher you can get a severe sunburn and frostbite at the same time. Yes, you can and people have. So sunscreen isn't just a good idea; it's vital. Use it summer and winter. Wear sunglasses as wwell.

I lived in Colorado for thirty years, primarily in the foothills above Denver but have traveled the whole state. This is a small price to pay for living in the best climate in North America and one of the best in the world.

Visit Leadville, the two mile high city, on a sunny day in the winter. If there's no wind you'll feel warm without a coat if the temperature is -5.
