I am moving to Denver to work in the DTC area. I am considering buying a house in the Arvada, Westminster, Lakewood, or Thornton area, as these areas appear to be the nicest places. Which one of these areas provides the fastest and slowest rush-hour commute to DTC?

Sorry, cross town commuting is a terrible idea. Unless you wish to spend 10-15 hours a week in your car. There are plenty of nice places on the south & east sides of Denver.

3 of the 4 you listed are Northern suburbs and will have horrible commutes. Lakewood will be the best, no contest, but you could do so much better.

Are Greenwood Village and Centennial out of your budget?

What about commuting "the other way"- would the commute from a downtown-ish Denver neighborhood north to Broomfield be brutal?

When I drove from the south end of metro to downtown all the traffic was coming from the north end of town so none of those cities are good. Lakewood would be best IMO. Consider SE Denver like Aurora, which is the nice part of Aurora or SE Denver such as homes off of Hampden and I25.

Centennial is a very nice area and has the best commute to the DTC since it is right there.

I guess it would depend on where in Broomfield. The commute along 36 is decidedly brutal.

Also, 287 crossing 36 is pretty bad, both north and south.

I am not sure that housing in Arvada, Westminster, Lakewood or Thornton has anything to offer that you can't find in DTC surrounding neighborhoods such as Centennial, Englewood, South Denver or South Aurora. Is there something specific that you find appealing about the north suburbs?
