Direct flight from Denver to Tokyo has been years in the making - The Denver Post

Glad to see Denver getting this flight- Hopefully it is a popular route and is a economic and tourist benefit to the Denver metro area.

I read the article but I didn't see the airline listed for some reason. Is it United or JAL? If its a United flight it will also be used as a feeder flight, for flights connecting to Japan in Denver.

Is there really that many people traveling from Denver to Japan? Tough to believe.

Think more in the other direction...Japan to Colorado.

Rocky Mountain National Park, Pikes Peak, Ski Resorts...plus, we do decent convention business here (not top tier, but not bad) and I saw a lot of Japanese last year, particularly in the science, tech, energy and tourism industries...all of which are right up Colorado's alley.

I could also see people flying here to Denver, staying the night and flying out the next day to Tokyo. Even if just an overnight stay, this is nice money into the city of Denver.

Do airlines still do "stopovers" like they used to?

Yep, skiing is huge in Japan. All depending on the direction the Yen/USD rate goes, we could see a lot of Japanese taking their vacations here instead of home (like the Euros currently do).

Well, apparently there must be. I'm sure they put a little research into starting this flight. DIA has had direct flights to London/Frankfurt for years, so Tokyo makes sense.
