Default Do you ever long for bridges that span wide rivers?

This aspect of living in Denver has been the hardest to get used to.
Is it just me, or do other residents of Denver sometimes long for a high bridge
over wide waters? One such bridge that comes to mind is the
bridge in Memphis, TN that crosses the river into Arkansas. I used
to frequent that bridge as a truck driver. There is an aura about
such environments that I wish Denver had. Obviously, we can't have it all, though.

I wish Denver had a large river in general. I don't think that the South Platte really counts LOL. But, yes I would love if Denver had a large bridge and/or many large bridges. It really adds to the beauty of a city (I think of how it beautifies cities like Pittsburgh).

Funny you should mention Pittsburgh. I am from the Pittsburgh area. Almost every town there is located on a river. There are more than the three you hear about all the time. I do miss the rivers.

The flip side of the coin (and I got burned by this in DC) is anywhere there are rivers you have to use bridges to get over them. One bridge, maybe two bridges but that's it. You are a slave to the bridge. The river is a big wall that prevents movement around town unless you go over the bridge.

I'm just trying to find the bridge...
Has anybody seen the bridge?
Bridge?

Have you seen the bridge?
I ain't seen the bridge!

Where's that confounded bridge?

In the Pittsburgh area there are bridges every few blocks over most of the rivers. Traffic gets funnelled to the bridges.

My original home/birthplace, Portland Oregon had 13 bridges crossing over the Willamette River. These separated the East Side from the West Side. Actually the I-5 Freeway that runs from Southern California up through Washington State crosses over this river in Portland. As you drive and look to the East you are about the same height or even a little higher than the skyline. With bridges and lots of water in Oregon comes lots of rain.

Without hitting mapquest, I'd say 2.5 to 3 hours each way. An easy day trip one can do in one day and not need a motel.
