I have a family plan (spouse + kids) through my employer, and I pay about $1200 a month. The kids only add about $400/month to the policy, and we also have a deductible to meet. The good news is that after years of double digit percentage increases in the month payments (combined with reductions in benefits), we only had a 5% increase this year.

You insurance option doesn't sound to bad to me.

I used to work for an health insurance company and have had it before so I know what the deal is. I just thought that was completely high or is this normal for CO?

We can't do anything with the states program as him income is too high.

We're definitely getting it but need to shop around as I'm with the same company and I'll be in the same boat in a month.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Ouch That does sound high. 2 years ago just before I retired and went on Medicare, my cost for single coverage was $100/month, $750 deduc, small self-funded employer.

Sounds like employer is not picking up much of premium, or is trying to discourage using their insurance at all.

If you and bf are working same place, can you each have own $250 plan versus $700 joint plan ??

You should start to research what will be available under "Obamacare". Oct. 1 is the start date for people to apply. Start here : https://www.healthcare.gov/

We are considering getting married for tax purposes. The taxes out here are crazy!!!!

So, why don't you simply get insurance just for you at the same company (or different company for that matter)?? You're not married. Heck, I know MANY people who ARE married and elect coverage individually as it's a much better deal.

Really? That doesn't seem so bad if it is good coverage.

In October the ACA enrollment opens. It will be effective on Jan. 1 2014

Uh, no it's not at all. I've worked at a large Fortune 500 in the Denver area, a large non-profit and had a spouse who worked at small places and medium-sized employers. Certainly it depends on the coverage but $250 is reasonable.

This $250 is bare minimum crap. If it was full loaded yes but again this is through an employer with bad deductibles, etc.

So I do not think that is reasonable in any case. Again I've worked in the health insurance industry before
