Take it OR Buy it New?
Hi!
Due to a job transfer, we're moving to Denver (hopefully by springtime) from California. We LOVE Denver and can't wait. We're packing up the house now and I'm trying to figure out what to sell/ditch vs. move with us.
I have one question to those who've BTDT:
What, if anything, did you regret not bringing that you couldn't get/replace in Denver? (besides a Trader Joe's!)
Thanks!

That is easy, what I could not get here was----my youth. I should have moved here, right out of high school and taken----my first love--that I could never replace.
So if you are young, do it now before........

I would recommend taking your weights with you. The cost of steel is raising everyday thanks to China.

What you take or leave really depends on what you have, how nice it is, and how attached you are to it. In my case, my wife and I don't really own much furniture worth moving. Its mostly cheap mismatched stuff we each bought before we were married, hand me downs, or got at Target. Aside from things like clothes, kitchen stuff, and a few tools, we're not keeping much. I'll keep my computers and a couple of expensive chairs (one recliner, one office chair). Everything else gets sold, tossed, or given away. The plan is to get the smallest enclosed truck UHaul has (about the size of a van). If it doesn't fit in there or in the 4Runner, it doesn't leave California.

We rented the biggest U-Haul and packed it totally full. We probably could've got rid of more stuff but we're kinda 'pack rats'. But we went from a 1300 sq ft home to 3600 sq ft, so we ended up buying a bunch more furniture, on top of our old stuff. No regrets about leaving anything or bringing it all either

For us its very little furniture, we replace it all when we move same go with most of the TVs. We will bring out all the family stuffs like pictures clothes personal effects. I have a large sports memoribilia collection that is cannot be replaced and the computers come, I would bet 70% gets sold or donated. of course the birds and cages must come along
It helps that we will make enough on the sale here to be able to afford to buy all new almost everything.

I ended up giving away clothes once we got here just to fit them into a smaller closet. Should have done that before we left. My husband picked out the house, though, and I didn't see it until we got here. I didn't know what I was dealing with! We've had enough expenses without having to buy new furniture, so I'm glad we brought it all. Most of it has been in 3 houses with us.

When we were about to put our house on the market we rented a 10x20 foot storage unit, filled it with extra furniture and boxes of stuff to make the house look spacious and uncluttered. The only thing I missed out of all that stuff was some photos and a couple of small heirlooms. That really made me realize how burdened we had become by things, especially the things you feel guilty getting rid of for whatever reason.
When we actually move, the only furniture I am keeping will be in great shape, an antique, or something my Grandpa made (he was a carpenter). Almost all of our library (yes, our collection was better in many ways than the one in our small town) is gone now, mostly stuff we will never read again.
Clothes? After two pregnancies and size changes, I keep my wardrobe small.
