Walkable, close to mountains, commuter rail to downtown Denver, commutable to Broomfield, close to Boulder, affordable. You just described Olde Town Arvada (rail in 2015?).

Excellent idea.
Gold Line Home 2016 Developments built around it are already popping up.

That's EXACTLY what's been happening in the DC area since the 1970's when that city's Metro Subway started rolling. People who owned along those rail lines reaped large rewards as the value of their properties surged. In some cases the homeowners of entire city blocks grouped together to sell as one bloc of properties to huge developers who tore it all down and put in high rises. There's a name for this trick, but my memory fails me now, always does when I try to recall stuff (property accumulation?). IIRC those folks got 3-4 times market price for their homes near Metro lines.

Smart folks would do well to buy near these new lines inthe Denver area.

What is your price range and what type of housing do you want?

Under $1500 rent for a 2 bedroom, preferably a townhome or part of a duplex

I'll keep looking into Arvada. Padmapper doesn't give me much near Olde Towne.

I hate to be "Negative Nellie" (already accused of that on another thread), but my daughter and her SO had no luck finding a place in/near Olde Town Arvada that was both affordable and in reasonably decent shape. They're not particularly picky either about the condition of a place.

Golden appealed to me because of the lightrail.....is that line operable out of Golden yet?
I may have missed it but is there a reason you wouldn't consider Louisville if walkable and proximity to the foothills (and Boulder for that matter) are priorities? Not to mention being 'next door' to Broomfield.

You may have to give up fancy amenities if you must have a duplex or a full-fledged townhouse but I saw plenty of options on padmapper for very nice apartments and a few decent townhouses.

Oooh, thanks for the listings.

I'm fine with Louisville if it was close to downtown, but it seems hard to find any place to rent near the downtown.

Right now I live in super suburbia in Minnesota. Next to a field. And then more fields. And no trees as it's all new build.

I'm just really ready for a change....city living or foothill/mountain living.

A place where I can take the bus or train and get to a concert and not have to drive 5 hours like I do now.....

Anyways, yeah, I'm not overly picky about amenities, more location, and that seems to be my problem.

I'll be in town next week and hope to find somewhere. :/
