Hi we are possibly relocating to the Denver area from Orange County CA. We are a family of 4 with an 8 yr old and a 3 yr old. I need suggestions for safe family friendly neighborhoods with exemplary schools or close to it. We are looking to rent for the time being looking to pay no more than $1500 a month for at least a 2 bedroom. Commute isn't to much of an importance at this time. More importantly are the schools and safety. Any and all input is greatly appreciated thanks so much.

While you say commute isn't important, it would probably help if you could tell us where work will be. Why commute if there is a nice area near work?

My husbands office is in Breckinridge lol but he would only drive to the office about 1-2 times a month so that's why I say commute really isn't an issue

What do you value in a neighborhood besides safety and good schools? Urban/suburban/rural? Walkable? Lot size? Proximity to airport? Proximity to light rail? Conservative/liberal? Etc.....

1. I thought you were moving to Houston, TX?
2. There are only a few "exemplary" schools in greater Denver.
3. Every neighborhood that you will look at will be safe.
4. $1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment is doable. Not for a single-family house.
5. The intersection of the sets of exemplary and $1500 is the null set.

Believe me davebarnes as the wife I am just as confused lol. That was the plan but it has since changed kind of happy it did honestly I much more prefer snow than humid heat .

We like walkable neighborhoods. Seeing that we will be renting to start our CO journey we aren't really looking for much in size and so forth. Eventually we would like to buy a house most likely in the $300k range.

Look in the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) or the Cherry Creek School District (CCSD), both acronyms are eminently searchable with our search tool. These two seem to be the acknowledged best SDs in the metro area.

You don't have to live in expensive Boulder to use the BVSD; IIRC there's a part of a nearby town that's also in BVSD but is much more affordable.

Use padmapper.com to seek rentals, heed the scam warnings for craigslist.

Forgot to add close proximity to the airport would be nice.

To be more specific regarding schools our daughter currently attends a school with an api of 879 and a rating of a 10 so we have high hopes in finding a school that is comparable.

Denver built a new airport nearly 20 years ago. It is not near anything. The areas closest to the airport are not exemplary by any means.

Walkable and exemplary schools is not something easily found, and not for $1500 per month.

Also: API is a California rating system. Because different states have different standards and different tests, it is hard to compare the two systems.

Your best bet: Check for places in Centennial. Look south of Belleview Ave., east of Holly St., west of Havana St. and north of County Line. You will be able to find some rentals in your price range.

What about living close to Breck? Maybe Dillon/Silverthorne area?
