i was kidding. ( - there needs to be a "tongue in cheek" icon...)

Default medium friendly

Back from the TJs discussion (miss it, like their products) to friendly or not:
first, I think your perception of friendly is going to depend on your mood. For example, I've had some rough personal times here that have nothing to do with the state. If my usual cheerful demeanor is missing, people will a) tend respond in a less cheerful way and b) I won't notice if they are being friendly because I'm so "grrr."
Second, it depends on your ideas of what friendly means. (Can you tell I used to be a lawyer?) South Texans are friendly in a way that seems fakey to some. People from my home state, Massachusetts, are usually matter of fact and reserved for a long time. But I'm so used to it that I don't notice.

Personally, I like the Texas manner, and the Midwesterners I've known, such as in Michigan, are pleasant without being over the top. I thought San Francisco was kind of hostile. Washington, DC is the meanest place I know. I don't think Denver is very friendly. The places I've been are either hipper-than-thou, or in other towns have a "we're rural folks and you seem like a city type, ugh" attitude, or are just generic ok.

Yep, spent 31 years there working for the Army. Not a nice place. I find it very friendly here by comparison.

Everybody seems to have their own impressions. It depends a lot on where you are comparing Denver to. I discussed Champaign, and in my hometown of Pittsburgh, people are very outgoing. However, I have noticed no difference in one on one interactions. Some people feel Pittsburgh is insular because many people there have huge families that go back generations.

I'm actually planning on moving from Vegas to Denver, reason being I HATE THIS TOWN! I can't stand a single moment here no more but i'm sucking it up until June of 09. People here are rude and they're nothing but tourist most of the time. I'm mainly moving because I'd like to start over and being that I'm going to school to become a Nurse I would love to get a great education and it seems to me that Denver can provide that for me. People in Vegas that are friendly is very rare. Those are the kind of people you definitely want to hang on to. I'm very much interested in meeting new people from Denver, please dont hesitate to message me.

Some eastern cities are really bad for outsiders b/c so many people have lived there all their lives, along with the past six generations of their families. They have no need for any other friends. I think I prefer Denver's attitude than that of some other places I have lived.
Wow, I've never heard anyone say this before but it's SO true. That's why it's hard to make friends in the South and the Northeast. There's a joke about the town I went to 6th grade through 12th in N.C. that goes: "Not only do you have to have been born here ( to fit in) , you have to have been conceived here." It's very cliquey.
Boston area feels the same--everyone has lived in the towns since birth and if you're new you're considered an outsider.
