Wife has a job offer in Boulder , we have about 250K for a house, looking at the Westminster/Broomfield area for her commute. We would like an older house with some trees and decent size lot, don't mind a fixer upper. No kids ,so schools aren't an issue. Is this doable in this area? What other nearby communities would meet our criteria? Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

Very doable.
The 80020 zip code, which covers most of Broomfield, and some of NW Westminster, currently has over 40 homes listed for sale at 250K or less.

Other communities might be Lafayette, Louisville, Longmont, Erie, depending on where work is in Boulder.

Good Hunting...

Broomfield and Westminster would be great. Arvada, especially the northern section, would be a decent possibility. Thornton has some good deals, but the commute is a little further.

Default Some thoughts

1. Broomfield and Westminster are NOT NW Denver. Regis and Berkeley are the neighborhoods in NW Denver.

2. Start with Zillow and do some searching to get a feel for prices.

3. The greater Denver market is a strong sellers' market. Inventory is close to the record low.
Multiple offer situations are increasing.

4. Prices are higher than $250K

Go to google maps and just type in Broomfield, CO so you can get an idea of the area you are talking about. I live on the far eastern edge of Broomfield and drive to southeast Boulder once a week and to downtown Boulder once a week. It never takes me more than 30 minutes, but I also don't go during rush hour.

There's an older area of Broomfield that is to the east and north of 287 that I just love. Use the intersection of Main Street and Midway as a starting point. There's a nice sense of community here and the houses get nicer as you move north. We tried to find a house here, but there were NONE for sale last summer. Close to the community center and library and you can walk to some of the stores. This area also has the older houses and trees, but it's really hard to find large lots anywhere in the Denver area. There are also some townhouses on the west side of 287, although I don't know their price range.

I know you don't need schools, but an easy way to do a search on Redfin is to look for houses within the Broomfield High School boundaries.
