Hey guys,

I'm a CT native looking to uproot and start my life elsewhere once I finish my degree this summer. This is something I've wanted to do for quite a while, and figured I'd find myself living in NYC after college. Although I do enjoy the city life, I find it to be a bit too hectic and rushed in New York. Also, I love me some nature, and you can't exactly get your nature fix within the city nor surrounding areas. I'm quite active; I frequent the gym and hike&run the trails within my town. I also enjoy snowboarding and have been lucky enough to experience real pow in CO and am now spoiled, so it'd be preferable to live within proximity. So in essence, I'm a city person who appreciates nature and yearns to have both. And from what I've read and researched, Denver has the best balance of the two.

So to get to the main point; my parents brother and I will be visiting the city and surrounding areas for a week in mid-June. This trip is essentially to give me an idea of what the area is like, and hopefully a decent idea of what to expect *IF* I choose to pack up and make the move. I know it's not entirely realistic, but what I ask is for some suggestions that may help me gain an idea of life in Denver that I won't see on websites stating the top tourist attractions. I'd also like to stroll through areas to get an idea of parts of Denver I'd like to live in.

Just a bit of basic info:
- I'm a guy who's soon to be 24, so I'd love to live somewhere that appeals to people of my age
- I tend to stray from the norms of society (I'm often called a hipster by random people for the way I dress)
- I'm used to NYC night life, and am a bit skeptical that Denver has something as such (This is actually the one thing that keeps NYC in the back of my mind)

With all of that said, I think the biggest pull for Denver for me is being surrounded by mentally & physically healthy people. The people around you can influence you in many ways, and I've learned that the hard way through past friendships and relationships. It's time to start fresh and find others who enjoy life in a similar manner!

- Adam

Well as stated, NYC is a bit too hectic for me. I do enjoy visiting there, but don't really see myself living there. It's far too expensive and the people never slow down to breathe and relax. It's not close to any proper snowboarding. The food is overpriced (and over rated IMHO). It's stress central. Like I said, the thing still keeping NYC in the back of my head (and it's just about the only thing other than having my brother live there, and he plans to move soon) is the night life.

Might you have any suggestions for things to do/things to see in Denver and surrounding areas? I want to really get a good feel for the city.

I think Boulder is your best bet. Hopefully you have rich parents or really love living lean.

I do plan on checking out Boulder, but what I really yearn is a cityscape. I'll also be visiting a friend in Fort Collins. And I anticipate living lean the first couple years out of college, I need to pay off loans and I don't plan on spending frivolously. But by no means will I be relying on my parents financially.

So I assume I should stick to the tourist sites for attractions to see? I was really hoping to get some good suggestions as to create an 'image' of Denver life.

The Denver cityscape isn't really much of a cityscape. It is barely there. If your thinking of coming out here, give up on that and focus on what the area has. Boulder is very dense with people. There are masses of people everywhere. The big difference is that no one will run you over with their car. They will practically turn themselves inside out to not hit you when your a pedestrian. There are lots of people on foot and on bikes milling around every where. You can be hipster there, lots of fit people, lots of trails and good access to foothills hiking. Lots of restaurants. Being a college town it has lots of 20 somethings.

No one moves to Denver for the city life unless they are from Montana or small town Nebraska.

To form an image of Denver city life hang out in Highland (Highland Square area http://highlands-square.com/maps/201...pmerchants.pdf), Cherry Creek mall area (North of the mall http://cherrycreeknorth.com/visit/map) and the neighborhoods around City Park (the Zoo and Nature and Science Museum are in this park http://www.yelp.com/biz/city-park-denver).

A lot of people go mountain biking, hiking and camping on the weekends. To me that is more what life in Denver is about. I do enjoy having the city amenities available some times but I think just about anyone who would like living in NYC would hate Denver and vice versa.

Much appreciated mic111, I'll take note of those areas and spend some time strolling around while I'm out there. Boulder sounds intriguing as well, a friend of mine is actually looking to relocate there with his girlfriend around the end of summer. I do like the idea of courteous drivers, this is something that CT and especially NYC lacks. Also, your point about hiking/biking/camping on the weekends is something I'd like to get more into. I wouldn't want my weekends comprised of long nights out followed by hangovers (but maybe once in a while). I'm much more about being physical and being outside (just finished my Memorial Day with a hike+run).

Also thanks davebarnes for the links for Denver maps, those will be very useful. I'll also take note of those areas to check out.
