My mom told me a story similar to Noahma's. Her sister needed a pair of mittens to wear to church on Christmas Eve, and my grandmother had knit a pair for a Christmas present. They said Santa dropped them out of the sleigh on his way over. However, if your son is OK with what he got for Christmas, maybe a birthday present would be the best way to work it out. My DH has a Feb birthday, and I often get him something from his Christmas list. Same with DD whose birthday is in March.

I agree with vegaspilgrim. Good point.

Give me a break! I certainly did not mean emergency literally...I simply had a shopping question that I wanted and needed responses quickly. I did after all say it was a SHOPPING question in the title of the thread. GOOD GRIEF!!!!

Let's all just calm down here! I wasn't trying to be mean, hockeymom. Honestly. I probably took your post a little too seriously, overanalyzing the title. Sorry, my bad. Congratulations on your move, btw, welcome to Colorado! And I agree Wal-Mart sucks-- shame on them. My point is we cannot get too hung up over materialism-- the "I gotta have it now or the world's going to end" attitude. We have US soldiers spending Christmas in Iraq, risking getting their heads blown off every day. Whether or not the ipod arrives on the 25th or the 26th is a triviality by comparison. And yeah, I can understand why that might be difficult for a 14 year old to understand. I'd probably be p.o.'d at that age too if I didn't get what I wanted. That's why I don't plan on having any kids for a LONG, LONG time-- if ever!

RE: the above.

Kids are loads of fun, even though it doesn't always seem that way.

I have had the same experience at Wal-Mart. Maybe they need to train their employees a little better. The OP seems happy with giving it as a birthday present.
