Default Apartment Hunting in the Denver area

Hey All,

I'm planning a move to the Denver area from Florida at the end of March, and was hoping to find an apartment/townhome for 1-3 months. Any recommendations on areas that are safe, quiet, accept dogs, (I have two) and possibly have a garage? Also wondering about different areas (i.e. Aurora vs. Broomfield vs. Arvada, etc). Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

First off, I would suggest doing a search on this forum. Secondly, you might consider leaving the dogs in Fla for the 1-3 mos (I assume you will then buy something?). Apartments vary a lot, it would be hard to recommend a place that has a garage, allows pets, etc. You will have to come out and look.

Been told to stay away from certain parts of Aurora and Edgewater but dont really know why so whatever everyone has opinions; heard Highlands Ranch is the nicest burb but a cookie cutter area like many parts of SoFlo. Personally, if im going to move to the area i would like to have a mountain view so cities like Arvada, Wheatridge might be interesting for u to look into. You'll be lucky if u find a 3 mo. lease, good luck...ur gonna LOVE it out there. The highest peak in South Florida is a city dump!

I would have no problem at all with Edgewater, I really don't know Aurora well. It's not all bad. You will have a mtn view from just about anywhere if you have west facing windows, sometimes also from the north/south windows. You will see the mtns when you go out pretty much no matter where you live in the metro area.

Lamar Village in Arvada allow month-to-month renting. They're very reasonably priced, fully furnished, and located in a safe area. There aren't any garages here, though, and I don't know about pet allowances. I've found that most of the apartment complexes in Denver have a month-to-month option, though it does jack up the rent. I know Warwick Station in Westminster (great location near 104th & Wadsworth) allows dogs, has garage options, and their rents are reasonable.

Best of luck!

I'm in Aurora - and it's nice - there are several in the area which OF COURSE I don't know the names of But I would actually suggest craigslist. A lot of the houses actually are the same price as the apartments!!!

Thanks everyone, I have been checking out Craigslist. There are just so many neighborhoods! I have been told conflicting things about Aurora, again back to personal choice and experience. Arvada was up there on my list. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Coming from someone who knows both cities, I think you will LOVE Denver. The light rail system is so much better than that pathetic streetcar system that Tampa has. The altitude will take some getting used to though. As far as where to live, 1-3 month rents are usually tough to find, but like they said above, Craigslist might be the best bet.

rent.com is an excellent source for finding apartments in the Denver area.
Good luck to you!
