TV reality show money!!

As to the original poster, I think you and your partner should be able to settle in here just fine. I've lost count so I don't know if this is the 5th or tenth "+" to the above comments. I've lived here nearly 40 years and what I like best about Denver is what I think of as the general "American West" attitude: un-snobby, egalitarian, open, friendly.

Denver's population is mostly white and Hispanic, with the black population coming in somewhere around 12%. That said, Denver's elected two black men as Mayor in the last 24 years: Wellington Webb (1991-2003) and Michael Hancock (2011-date). What it says to me is that the voters (1) are receptive to (2) good candidates for office, (3) regardless of race/ethnicity. Since at least 1990, the City's Anti-Discrimination Ordinance has included sexual orientation in the protected categories. For a long time, the City Council has been a diverse group, which has leaned progressive. All that probably has little to do with everyday life, but may be of interest to new residents.

As to areas to live in, good advice above, including Stapleton. If you're going to be flying in and out a lot, I'd recommend central/East-of-I-25 areas, for easier Airport commutes.

Welcome to town!!
