Come on Dave! There are trees here in the city!

I was watching a movie set in Manhattan last night and was really struck by all the trees and greenery. That really is a large difference from NY and other northeast cities.

If you do buy, property taxes are 1/3 to 1/2 compared to NY. Rental prices already mentioned.

Many other things are higher cost than they should be given salaries, a big one being childcare, should you and your girlfriend get to that point. Denver is about the 6th most expensive city for childcare, despite salaries being no where near that. It was an unexpected and unpleasant surprise when I moved here from Boston.

Car registration fees are high.

I've been here about 8 years, and I can see a lot of changes over that time frame, some good, some not so good, such as way more traffic and increasingly bad driving. I suspect that trend will continue.

The weather is MUCH nicer. I say that compared with the Northeast where I grew up.
However, it is also much drier. There are no trees.

The pace of life is slower.

After 34 years, I am not leaving.
Wait what?
The massive pine tree in my front yard begs to differ.

OP, I am also originally from NYC though I didn't move here directly from there.
Positives for me as compared to NYC:
Enough good museums, theater, music to satisfy those longings plus the benefit of lower prices and smaller crowds.
Very nice, walkable areas around the Capitol Building and 16th St. Mall.
Humidity-free summers.
Being able to see the sky day and night. And stars. Lots of stars.
Existing/improving public transportation system.
Closer-in suburbs.
Higher highway speed limits.

Negatives:
High cost of housing in relation to salaries.
High, as in sky-high, car registration fees.
Hit or miss snow removal.
Combination of public/private services. I had the option of choosing from four different trash removal companies. There isn't a single weekday when garbage trucks aren't rumbling around my neighborhood.

Overall, I don't miss anything about NYC and much prefer the lifestyle here.
