Alrighty guys I have a job possibility near Denver and was looking at houses last night and just about fell over at the prices.

The job is at the Denver airport so I'd like to be within a 30 min commute. Perhaps you guys can tell me if this is possible. I'd like a smallish house 2-3 Bed and 2 acres or more of land. I'm wanting to stay under or about $150k...now looking at house prices last night I couldn't even find any houses under $300k or so even in the outlying towns.

The bit of land is very important to me. I'm not really into the city life, I like to be out and away from people for the most part. Denver is not my first choice, but it's a terrific job that I've been waiting to get my foot in the door.

I don't really care what part of the Denver area, I just need to be within 30 mins of the airport. Is anything like this possible or am I condemned to live in the suburbs?

I've usually rented houses but am currently having a bad renting experience here in Cleveland so I'd like to get from under the renting thumb.

Any input would be appreciated.

Semper Fi,
Derek

What you want for what you will pay largely does not exist in the Denver area.

Denver is the most expensive non-coastal market in the nation.

Water is scarce, so plots are small.

You might try Deer Trail. I saw a fixer for $85k on one of the real estate sites. Doesn't have two acres but the lot is relatively big. You will be on the plains and might be able to see the mountains off in the distance.

Good luck.

Maybe the area around the Tomahawk Truck Stop.

I think you should look at Fort Lupton. Here is a mobile home on 1 acre for $129K.

REALTOR.com - Real estate listings & homes for sale

Take a look at the sold places also to get an idea of what you can get and for what price. Some of them are not mobile homes. Of course you will get the lowest price on the mobile homes.

If you look at the small towns within a 30 min radius of DIA you should find something. Staying away from the Denver Metro area is key to getting your price on some space.

The eastern plains may have some options. Ft. Lupton is a good suggestion.

Under $150k with 2 acres 30 minutes from any city "on the rise" is going to be tough. Probably easier found in places where the population is flat or on the decline (ie, rust belt).

I can point you to lots of homes less than $300k in the Denver burbs - just not with 2 acres. That's asking quite a bit unless you are ok with mobile home surrounded by junk - that exists

Well using zillow, this was literally the only thing I found that somewhat met your description.

71785 E County Road 6, Byers, CO 80103 - Foreclosure - Zillow

You can find the land well below your price point, but land with a structure on it is almost nonexistent in your range.

There is some stuff out by Fort Morgan, but you will be commuting an hour.

Your only choice will be to the east of DIA (maybe north), out on the plains. And from what I've seen, most of those little towns are dumps. But if you want "land" (expect tumbleweeds, not trees), that's probably the only option.

Denver is probably a lot denser of a metro area than you're used to, and once you step outside the metro area, there isn't much of anything there. Unless you go west/SW of the metro area into the mountains. Then you'll find quaint towns and beautiful landscape, but it's expensive.

Thanks guys/gals. Perhaps I will need to change my expectations of how far money will go out there. The main office for the job is in Lakewood, I'm not certain yet if I'll be required to live near lake wood on the air port. Hoping for lakewood since it looks like if I push a little west I can get into some real pretty country.
