Look at the surrounding neighborhoods immediately adjacent to LoDo and the CBD - Highlands, RiNo, Curtis Park, Capitol Hill (parking still an issue there) and Baker.

You'll find more variety and more selection, maybe more for your money (a reserved parking spot will certainly be cheaper). And it's still considered living downtown - (plenty of young people around.) Unless you're clubbing, barhopping, and dining at steakhouses more than 3x weekly you won't feel too far. It's still the center of the city, and it's not challenging to get to LoDo - an Uber ride home is under $10.

Also if you're doing outdoorsy stuff regularly it's a pain to lug gear from your car an apartment or condo in a big building, (multiple doors, elevators, long hallways,) unless you have a secure storage locker in the garage. I lived in a highrise before owning a house, and while I miss the views I don't miss multiple trips packing and unpacking the car for weekend getaways (summer and winter). You'll find smaller complexes and individual places for rent outside of LoDo.
I like that idea... I was perusing craigslist ads and highlands area seems decent. So long as its still pretty close to downtown.

I'm visiting again next week for a snowboarding trip. I will definitely take all the above into consideration. Gonna walk through all the neighborhoods, etc. But it seems to me that Cap Hill looks like the best bet. Cheapest and still close to everything and tons of young people
