I love the staff at Tacos Jalisco - very nice people!
Pizza....hmmm... I really like Protos, Edgewater Pizza is good and they have a good house salad, but the pizza is admittedly kinda different than traditional pizza if you're up for something new. I also like Anthony's on 6th - pretty straight forward but yummy! |

Ok today was Jack N Grill! ( I can't keep doing a burrito a day....
)I drove by Pazqueros (or however you spell it) and saw it was more a sit-down place so I went to try Jack N Grill (also basically a sit-down so ) and had a ridiculous smothered (w/ green chile ) adovada burrito. It was good, pretty damn good. Not what I'm used to, I'd call it more a huge enchilada but whatever... Also $12 for a burrito, albeit a huge one, is a little steep. I guess what I was originally asking for is more like a fast-food type taqueria, maybe a small area to sit down but not order from a menu and server type if you know what I mean. So keep the ideas coming and I'll keep trying! (at least until I find a place to live and start buying groceries and eating normal again....) |

Tim, I know what you're talking about.
I lived in the San Fernando Valley for years and go back to Torrance a lot for work. I asked our customer where the best Mexican food was (near Crenshaw and Sepulveda or where ever) and he said there was this Roach Coach down the road... I asked, "Are you sure it's safe?" He laughed and said, it's been there for about the last 18 years doing business and they've got the best food. He was right. It was great. Same thing when I was just out in Reseda. The customer told me to go to this hole-in-the wall place and they had great Carnitas. I have found the same kind of thing in Denver. You might find some places in Denver that I've never found. I'd try south Federal and south Broadway. There was this place I went for tamales; It was near 44th and Tennyson. Don't know if it's still there. Previously, I posted; Some have mentioned not liking Bluebonnet and I'd agree. I wonder if that place on Broadway and north of Hampton (Jefferson) is still there; I think it's called El Tappauan. I used to like Tajadas, but not so much the last time I went. I've got no comments for or against my recommendations with Mexican food. Maybe you'll find them useful. Chipolte's is a franchise rice-stuffing dump. Chubbies knows how to make food hot. Blue Bonnet knows how to melt cheese. Here in Pueblo, we've got more Mexican food per capita this side of Monterrey! My friend from there says that goat is really good. I'll have to try it sometime. |

Whazzup McGowdog?? I used to live about 15 minutes away from there till I moved to the Western Slope in '93. Probably went in there 50 times over 20 plus years but not recently. My sis and brother in law says it's still great. I had heard the Blue Bonnet has slipped a little in quality lately. Too bad; I ate there maybe once a month and always got a good meal.

I am from AZ living in Denver, and CO has nothing on AZ authentic Mex food! Ground beef is not Mexican Food! Shredded beef is the only way to go. And forget pre made taco shells.....DEEP FRY THEM BABIES WITH THE MEAT IN THEM!! Ugh! I so want to open my own shop!
There are so many authentic hole in the walls, I can't wait to visit AZ just so I can get some REAL Mex food. My hubby and I have been to SO many places, we can't find anything here that is like AZ. We will take some of your suggestions and try them. For what it's worth - CHUBBY'S Sucks!!! |

TACOS Y SALSAS - Now this is what I was talking about! Stopped by today on a whim in the afternoon and the place was packed (mostly with mexicans!) and it was pretty damn good. But this is exactly the kind of place I was talking about; small fast-food type taqueria, fast, cheap, and busy (always a good sign), and good of course....
Any other good places that are like Tacos Y Salsas? (got to make sure) |

You ever heard of Q Tortas on Bradford in old town Placentia? Its a little hole in the wall with about 5 tables and the food is great, especially the carnitas. You have to go there. Just look for the yellow sign with the happy pig in the pot! I'm hoping to find something like that when I move to Denver.
