Since you don't specify, I must presume that you mean the census data that shows there are an equal number of males, 300,089, and females, 300,069, in the City of Denver, correct?

The thing about that total male/female number, or any similar number for any city, is that it does not differentiate by age. The 60+ population in Denver, like every other city, is more than 60% female. In almost all cities total females greatly out number total males because of this huge excess of females in the 60+ age group. One needs to look at age specific gender/age numbers to get useful data, unfortuantelly this detailed data is not so easy to find at the County level. Citydata has age/sex charts for zip codes that are instructive in this regard. To use a zip code that I am familiar with, 80222, that has an equal number of men and women, of course the zip code charts vary, one can see that there are far more women in the 60+ range, and far more men in 25-45 age range (the age range most people on this forum concern themselves with). This is what an overall balanced gender ratio more often than not looks like....

A very good point.
I searched my zip code, 80209, and it is more female than male except 35-45.

Downtown (80202) is even from 20-25 and then gets increasing more male dominated.

Highland (80211) is even until 30, then gets more male dominated.

I think it's fair to say the Menver thing is overblown.
