Default Monaco South Apartments

We are considering moving to Monaco South Apartments on South Monaco Pkwy. Can anyone tell me if they're in a good location? We don't have jobs yet, but we plan to be there for at least three months. I would like to know if it's a safe area (we have a 5-month old daughter), and if it's close to public transport/shopping, as we're not likely to have a car when we first arrive.

We're planning on moving at the beginning of March.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Cindy

We live in Condos right near there. The neighborhood is safe. There are two grocery stores and a few restaurants within walking distance. There are bus stops on Monaco and Leetsdale but I'm not sure where those busses go. There are also some parks within walking distance.

That neighborhood isn't too bad, but if it were me I'd want to go further south on Monaco than Leetsdale. A lot of the condos in that neighborhood are somewhat dilapidated. That said, if you're on a tight budget, don't want to rent, and are buying it simply to live in and don't care as much about the investment vehicle aspect of homebuying, you might be okay. However, I'd pay particular attention to any assessment lien history and how much of a reserve the HOA has, as well as what maintenance needs to be done on the buildings.

EDIT: Looks like you're renting. If that's correct, ignore the end of the above post.

I thought Monaco South apartments were closer to Evans Av.

There are several amenities there and both Monaco and Evans are major bus routes. There are two nice parks in the area, one with a pool, and schools are about average. I worked a mile north for 20 years and watched the neighborhood slowly change from middle class to an ethnic variety, crime hasn't been a big problem.
