I was looking for a townhouse in the Northglenn/Thornton area. I found a few communities that allow up to two pets; I have two dogs, so it seemed perfect. Then I saw a disclaimer in one community that their bylaws don't necessarily match up with Adams County regulations. My curiosity was piqued, so I started digging through the Adams County website. After much searching, I found that in Adams County, multi family zoning is restricted to two pets: one dog and one cat.

My question, beyond WTH, is how serious are they? I've seen more than one person walking two dogs in the neighborhoods I was looking at. Are two dog owners in townhouses just scofflaws? Does anyone here live in these communities with two dogs?

Wow! I'm really surprised but you are right. I just checked. If you can find a place zoned
R2, DUPLEX ZONE DISTRICT AND MH, MOBILE HOME ZONE DISTRICTS then you can have 2.

But for
R-3, R-4 MULTI-FAMILY ZONE DISTRICTS you are only allowed 1.

I suspect it isn't enforced unless someone complains. In an apartment if someone knew the law and wanted to make trouble for you they could.

Maybe you should try Broomfield.

Yep, I was pretty gobsmacked. Especially since Adams County doesn't care if you have alpacas on your quarter acre

(I may be exaggerating the alpaca limit for effect.)
