I'm thinking of living in Greenwood Village and taking a job at the Univ of Colorado medical center in Aurora. Anyone have any thoughts on what the rush hour commute is like between these two locations? I know the mileage, but what is the traffic situation on an average work day? How long would it take to get to work? Thanks very much in advance for any advice you many have.

I live north of there, closer to DU, but drive to the University medical campus for work on a daily basis. During the height of rush hour it can be a drag, but I try to leave home before 6:30 and it's maybe 25 minutes tops. The recently-completed work on 225 means it's pretty much congestion-free on 225 unless there's been an accident. Coming home takes a bit more time since 225 narrows as you get closer to 25, so it can back up for a bit. Again, leaving before/after the height of rush hour makes a big difference.

And of course, a light rail line along 225 is set to open in 2016 which could make your commute super easy depending on how far you are from the station.

If I worked there I would live in Stapleton. No question.

I know quite a few people who do this. They are all people with children in Cherry Creek Schools. The commute takes 30-45 min. During rush hour. Not having to send their kids to DPS schools is worth it.

Univ of Colorado medical center in Aurora.
AKA CU Med Center and not UC Medical Center
Many newbies to the are make the mistake of the thinking University of Colorado = UC. It is CU.
Same with DU for University of Denver.

I know you are really anti DPS, but every parent I know with kids in Stapleton is in DPS and is extremely happy with the quality of the schools. The only thing that would give me pause right now is if I had high school aged kids since the Stapleton high school isn't open yet.

I agree that if you are working at Anschutz, living in Stapleton makes much more sense than Greenwood Village.

Northfield (Stapleton) High School opens this fall. So while I would not move into Stapleton with a HS aged student during the current academic year, it's fine after that.

And yes, the schools in Stapleton are among the best in all of DPS. I moved here a few months ago specifically for the schools. It's a bit of a crazy situation in that elementary and middle school are enrollment zones and you have to go through the choice lottery for your school, but all of the options are good.

Agreed. I know I have been, as has everyone else I know who lives in Stapleton and works at Anschutz (which is always how I hear the campus referred to).

Thank you everyone who is giving advice on this topic. I was thinking of living in Greenwood Village because the schools are good there. As a parent of a kids ages 5 and 7, would you say the schools in Cherry Creek or Stapleton are better? Also, I see there is an international baccalaureate school in Stapleton. Is that better than the Cherry Creek Schools? Thanks in advance! I am moving to Colorado from Illinois, so have no idea what schools are the best….
