Hey locals -

How do I find information on the arts and cultural events in Denver? Is there any kind of weekly paper (we have one here) that advertises this stuff?

More specifically, I'm a singer and will be looking for a choir to join when I get to town. Not so much a church choir as a Philharmonic, or Symphony Chorus, or something to that effect. Does anyone here know what some of the groups in the Denver area are or how I can find out about them?

Thanks!

You are the type of person we want in Colorado.

First go to this site about the arts in Colorado Welcome To Arts-To-Zoo!.

I would look at The Denver Center For Performing Arts : Welcome This is the largest center in the West.

Check out the Arvada Center Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities:

Do not forget to look into our new opera house
Opera Colorado : Home

For auditions and events, there is the free Weekly Newspaper, Westword Denver - News

According to a January 11th (Denver) Craigslist:

"The Colorado Choir is currently accepting auditions for all voice parts. More information is available at coloradochoir.com."

Hey thanks! I found the Colorado Choir online yesterday thanks to the Google. It seems like the kind of group I'd be interested in, though much larger than anything I've done before.

Does anyone know of any other choirs/choruses I could look into as well?

I belong to one of the eight GALA choruses in the Denver Metro area. What type of choral music are you looking to sing, chamber, classical, religious, pop, jazz, contemporary? There are many small groups as well as large?

I currently sing with a Philharmonic Chorus (all unaccompanied music) of about 40 members.

We do a mix of secular and sacred music, both classical and contemporary. I guess I'd like to find a group that does something similar. I'm open to other stuff too...

Oh, and one that does some kind of fun Christmas show, if possible. That's the best part of our season, and one of the things I will miss most when I move.

Swallow Hill Music Association has a choir. Swallow Hill: Denver's Home for Folk, Roots and Acoustic Music

There are also a lot of chapters of "Sweet Adelines" if that's your thing.

Oh yeah, I didn't even think about checking into that. My cousin directs their Vienna Falls chapter out near DC.

Thanks for the input! If people have more suggestions, keep 'em coming. I'm sure there are people who would be interested in hearing about other aspects of the arts scene in Denver, too... local music, good places to hear it, theater, etc.
