I picked it up because I also had concerns prior to moving out here.

It's a slightly older book, but Ackland has the resume to write on this particular topic.

He was a professor at CU Boulder and former editor of The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. The book takes a historical look at the Flats and lays out a timeline of events, all while educating the reader on the process of manufacturing plutonium triggers. Admittedly the book is a little dry at times, but theres no reason to be hyperbolic on the subject when the facts are bad enough. Good Luck.

Check it out, I think it's in paperback.
Even if the story of RF doesn't phase you, the history of the area is a great read.

I lived in Saratoga Springs from 1952 to 1956 on George Street.
I had a wonderful time there.
The main street was still alive.
I never even noticed (at age 6) that it was a segregated city.
