We are a family with 3 elementary school age kids that is looking to move from the far northern suburbs of Chicago to the Denver area. Looking for a good suburb to target that would be a good fit for transplants, good schools, and good for kids activities (baseball, ice hockey, and whatever else). We are not religious people at all (we're nominally jewish), so want to avoid areas where we need to be involved in church life to be able to meet people and make friends. I work from home and my wife works in schools (and will look for a new job near wherever we go), so we don't have any location restrictions based on work, so its just a question of where we would enjoy living.

So far, from reading on here and other places, I seem to be coming up with Highlands Ranch as a good fit for us. I'm a little concerned about the lack of diversity and stepford wives comparisons....but the advantages for us are significant.

Would love to get any opinions and thoughts on our options and any help would be greatly appreciated!

What's your budget and what are you looking for in a house?

Stapleton comes to mind, but unsure about your price range.

Looking to stay under around $700k for a 3000+ sq foot house with at least some yard

I've actually not come across Stapleton yet while looking into this, so I will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

$700k is plenty to buy - you will get more in the suburbs for your money than Stapleton, which is a in fill development in Denver.

www.REColorado.com will be able to show you active houses on the market for sale without registering.

I would stay south. The southern suburbs of Greenwood Village and Centennial have Jewish populations and synagogues if you desire. Highlands Ranch is more home to the Christian megachurches.

I am not a fan of Douglas County schools. Do a search on my name and Douglas County schools to find out why. I would not work nor would I encourage my wife to ever work in Douglas County school district.

Homes in Centennial and Greenwood Village have larger lots than Highlands Ranch does.

Cherry Creek High School (Greenwood Village) is on par with schools like New Trier.

There are plenty of great subdivisions on the same side of town as Highlands Ranch that are great for families. Highlands Ranch is just the most widely known. You can get a very nice home for anywhere within a $500k-$700k range in just about any suburb of Denver.

Here are few neighborhoods that you can research and look into in addition to Highlands Ranch that are all in Littleton:

Ken Caryl Valley
Ken Caryl Ranch
Grant Ranch
Governor's Ranch
Trailmark
Overlook at Platte Valley
Vintage Reserve

The South Metro suburbs (Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Littleton seem to be a go-to pick when it comes to youth sports. Stapleton is like a suburb within the city...great amenities, but you have to go out of neighborhood for baseball and hockey. There is more soccer and lacrosse there. You may want to consider NW suburbs like Golden or Louisville for a bit of the small town feel w/ proximity to the city.
