I am from Houston and want to escape the BIG city traditions. I am moving to CO in July/August and want to know what areas are better than others. I am interested in areas WEST or NORTH WEST of Denver.

I will be working from home therefore the commute is not revalent.

I am wanting a smaller community with a great school system and newer home selections.

Your thoughts on new and upcoming communities?

well....my home here in TX is 2800 SF....4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath, 2 car garage. I would want something similar and between $250,00 and $325,000.

also, what are your thoughts on renting/leasing for my 1st year. this would allow me to get my boundries before settling down.

i would love to move anywhere off 70 but need a fairly easy access to an airport.

what about any communities off of 36?

Whether you rent or buy, it's a decision only you can make. Folks do both. Which one you do depends on you. Do you need the tax deduction? Are you willing to move twice? If schools are important, then are you willing to change schools in a year?

The people I usually work with are buying. They don't wish to move twice. They know what they want. Once they see it they make a decision. Sometimes, they look at both rentals and for sale properties - and then decide which they like best.

There are communities off 36. I was thinking you might like Golden or Arvada.

We are also in Houston and will be moving to Denver as soon as we can sell our house. We cannot decide between living near downtown and experiencing an urban area, or to get away from it all and move in the foothills in Evergreen. If we cannot decide, our alternative is a neighborhood like Trailmark in Littleton, which is a smaller neighborhood bordered by open space, but where the taxes are higher than normal.

Conifer area is awesome. Lived here for 2 years after being in the burbs for 20+ years. Very small town welcoming feel. And only 20 -25 minutes to the burbs type stores (Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc). Conifer has two major grocery stores, one a very upscale with only 2 like it (an upscale Safeway). The roads are cleared better than in the city, so the "winter" and snow really aren't that big of an impact. Let me know if you have more questions. I love it here and can't image living in a burb again!

Smile Moving to Colorado....

First off welcome to Colorado..
I do landscape construction all over the Denver Metro area and my favorite areas are just West of C470 from Morrison down to Chatsfield State park.
The homes are pretty expensive compared to down town Denver but the scenery is breathtaking. Northwest of Denver is the Boulder valley and it too has it's charms but the the politics are pretty radical ( you can not own a pet, you are their guardian)
Up in the foot hills as we call them very few homes have big lawns and wild animals like deer and elk are in the neighborhoods. As I said the areas west of C-470 is pricey but well worth the investment and no two homes look alike as they do down in Highlands Ranch( the entire town of Highlands Ranch as well as Lone Tree are gigantic Covenants even restricting the color of your deck)
Anyway welcome to big blue sky and orange and blue sunsets( God is a Bronco fan)

Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield all NW of Denver and nice communities. L & L both have downtown shopping areas, Broomfield does not but has a good sense of community. Someone else will have to answer for Conifer.
