We better have some GREAT tomatoes this summer for all our effort.
I've spent a total (not continuously) of 12 years in Denver and never has the weather been this stupid! Last year's May snow and then hail (that caused us to get a new roof and paint and defoliated our trees), then the extremely early arctic air in November that killed a huge hedge that we just spent 2 days removing and $400 worth of plants to replace the hedge, then we had 6" of snow THIS Mother's Day and lost some leaves and branches, followed by this, multiple rounds of hail. I'm wondering if it's even worth having any vegetation on my property.

^^I've been here almost 34 years, the last 26 of them consecutive. I've never seen this either. The very first May we were here (1981), it was cool and wet, but nothing like this. Then the summer was a real scorcher!

Here's an interesting story I heard on CPR yesterday. After The Hail, Advice For Resurrecting Your Garden | CPR In the audio, the interviewee says it may be too late to re-plant popcorn (because it is a long season crop), but not for most other stuff.

Drove my GF to the airport last night and thought my car was going to get swept away in a flood on Pena Blvd. I've never seen a storm like that in CO. It reminded me of the storms I've seen driving through Kansas. The last few years have been extremely wet here.

The good thing about the rain is I am conserving a lot of water which is saving me money. Everything is so green.

I haven't even dewinterized my sprinklers yet.

I've run my sprinklers, but only to locate and mark them for aeration. Our grass has been growing so fast that we struggle to find time between rain storms to mow.

A couple of weeks ago, everybody in the family spent the better part of a day raking up matted clippings from the lawn because they were smothering the underlying grass. Our mulching mower just could not effectively handle the length of grass, and the optional bag attachment auto-ejected after each row! (We desperately need a new mower.) It took hours to remove the clumps of grass from the few mows we've been able to get in this year, and we all ached from head to toe by the time we were done. We tried a thatching attachment early on, but it did more harm than good, so hand-raking was our best option. The lawn now looks much better, but ouch!

I bought a used rotary push mower since I only have my tiny little bit of tree lawn to worry about. But it grew so quickly and there was ALWAYS rain, so I never got a chance to mow it and then keep it mowed frequently enough for a push mower to be effective. Fortunately, someone on my block organized a landscaping service that does the entire block and we all kick in a small amount to cover it.
