I'm doing research on Internet access options in Thornton CO from before 1998. I didn't live here back then, but hoping some old-timers with a good memory can help me out. I've reached out to the "DOG" (Denver's Other Group) Computer Club hoping they have some senior members who might recall this sort of thing.

Please post in this thread if you were around back then and your memory is intact (*grin*) or if you have ideas on where I might look for this information.

Thanks!

I used a dialup service called PC Pursuit. They sold unused bandwidth, which means it was useful mostly in the evenings and overnight.

I think it was available in most major cities. It might have used CompuServe's dialup network. I used CompuServe for my daytime internet access.

Then living in Boulder, I first used a dialup service called joimail, then for a couple(?) of years the Boulder Daily Camera offered a dialup service (not sure I quite recall correctly, was called something like infi.net) that I used. By 1998 I was using comcast.

Was it Comcast or TCI? I don't think Comcast was here yet well at least in the Denver area.

Compuserve, Prodigy and of course AOL (You've got mail!)

NetZero was also pretty popular nationwide I believe...

In Broomfield in 1998 I signed up with "Rocky Mt Internet". At first via dial-up, later DSL. They later became part of Earthlink. I still use an @rmi.net email address.

From 1996 - 1998 had access to employer's corporate dial-in network with Internet access.

+ for RMI. I still remember my 1995 password (max length of 6 characters): tfd%38 (which was assigned to me).
Then, ecentral.com.
Then PeakPeak.com (1997-2010).

The more important question is: are we distinguishing between plain vanilla internet access and proving hosting/email service?

There was also Juno. There are still a few people that actually have active accounts with them. They didn't get forced switched. Pretty funny to see those come across, it's rare though.
