Hey there!

It's a strong possibility that my job may be relocating to Denver -- I'm currently in St. Louis, MO. Married with children.

The company's building is located in Greenwood Village -- I'm not opposed to commuting if I need to, but I need a decent 4 bedroom (preferably rentable) that falls around $1200 a month and is in a decent area. Hoping to find a commute that's around an hour at the max.

Hopefully some of you fine folks have some good info on areas where this is possible!

Thanks!

You need to spend a few hours reading all the informative posts here about the Denver rental market.
The, after you find a 4 bed for $1200/mo, you can come back here and mock us.

Maybe some people don't have hours to sift through all the non-sense. Problem is that most of these posts end Up in arguments from locals that feel they need to defend their "hood"

My advice,

Post specific questions. Ask for specific details,. Lost out the exact things you are really looking for. Be sure to include your price, personal desires, ethnicity if you're looking for certain places to worship/eat/gather (because people love to pussyfoot around that one instead of be blunt).

If you are up front and blunt- you will get some nice person willing to respon rather than getting arrogant response telling you to "go read"

I wish I could help you but I'm in the same boat, relocating there and trying to find answers. Good luck to you and beat wishes on a safe move

I don't think a 4 bedroom home in a decent area in Denver metro @ $1,200 per month is realistic. Most 1 bedroom apartments are $1,200+. Try Castle Rock.

A couple of things:

1. The OP is ok with an hour long commute
2. The job is in DTC not downtown

I wonder, could he go east to find what he's looking for? An hour east is not much if it's during rush hour but if the OP has some schedule flexibility an hour east can get you pretty far which might make a 3-4 bedroom doable for under 1200.

Still, OP the chances are slim

Castle Rock would be a good option for a rental house, though I think the rent may be more like $2000. It would be a reasonable drive to the DTC as well.

There is no reason to believe an hour commute is reasonable. The average commute in the metro area is under 25 minutes. Have you done a cost analysis on expenses for traveling 2 hours a day, five days a week? What about the needs of your family? Are they ok with you being gone 10 hours a day?

Your rental budget is really low for a 4 bedroom. Try padmapper.com As hard as it is to contract for a property to buy, it is easier than renting.

While I agree that it is ludicrous in Denver, the idea of an hour commute each way might be something the OP and his family are used to from where they currently live. When we lived in NYC 1.5 hours each way was considered a good day for me. Just saying, the world is bigger than Denver.

A 1 hour commute in the summer or a 1 hour commute in the snow? Those wouldn't be the same thing.

And while someone may not have hours to spend reading the forum, they could read a couple of the many threads right on the very first page of this subforum detailing the high price of renting and buying property in the Denver area.

People posting here are very generous with their time, and frequently will even take the time to google and post links to things that would have been a no brainer for someone to have searched themselves. But it does get a bit frustrating to see someone posting a new thread asking a question that is clearly addressed in multiple other active threads.

I sure hope your company is giving you a bump in pay because $1,200 is not going to get you much especially a 4 bedroom. Even with a lengthy commute that will be tough to find. Like others have said look south to Castle Rock or you might have to look way east of the metro area.

Good luck in your search.
