They are both reformers so no, it's not ok. My short list was not meant to be all inclusive. they are on the same side as the Koch's so not sure what your point is.

I work in another Denver district that is much lower SES and has a much "tougher" student population. For the past several years we have gotten teachers applying to my district from DCSD in droves. Almost everyone we've hired in the past few years has come from DCSD. Two of my teammates left DCSD mid-year, which is almost unheard of in teaching. I was mentoring a newer teacher this year who came from DCSD and she told me on an almost daily basis how happy she is and how much better working in my district is, even though the students are significantly more challenging. The stories she told were absolutely crazy!


The craziest thing to me is how many people buy into this "it's the unions" nonsense. Douglas County has not had a functioning union for years, and besides that CO is not a "closed shop" state anyway. The school board in DSCD effectively disbanded the union by refusing to negotiate with them. Yet somehow they are getting some Doug Co voters to believe that everything is this non-existent "union's" fault. "Teacher associations" are voluntary to join and don't have anywhere near the power (if they have any power) as the "closed shop" unions in my home state.

Judge orders halt to Douglas County’s newest voucher program

The judge who ordered a halt to a Douglas County School District voucher program five years ago handed down a similar order Wednesday, enjoining a version of the program that had been reconfigured to exclude religious schools.

Denver District Judge Michael Martinez ruled that Douglas County’s School Choice Grant Program, created by the district in the spring, is not substantially different from its predecessor program, the Choice Scholarship Program. That program was struck down by the Colorado Supreme Court last year as unconstitutional due to the fact that it permitted public money to be used to educate students in religious schools.

Wednesday’s ruling comes just a couple of weeks before the Aug. 18 start to the school year and as the district is on the verge of finalizing contracts with four private schools that wanted to participate in the voucher program. . .
